We spend a day with Caro in Saint Emilion and it was awesome! Caro was super friendly and very knowledgeable of the area. We got to climb atop St Emilion's old tower to take in a 360 degree view of St Emilion, and wandered throughout the old town. It was beautiful! We did a couple of great wine tastings as well. I would recommend French Wine Adventures to anyone!

Very easy to do the booking over the internet, and to have the bikes delivered and collected at agreed times. Our road bikes (Lapierre) were excellent, well maintained and great to ride. The best bit was the local knowledge and advice Robert gave us on where best to see the Tour de France, local routes and sites to see. The colour map and routes Robert gave us was better than the IGN map I had with me. No need to bring your own tubes, tools, pumps, spare tyres ets - Robert provides the lot. Highly recommended.

I would highly recommend this as a great day out around Bergerac. Alex is very accomodating and will pick up and drop off from your gite. We were outside his normal pick up area however he happily picked us up for a small additional fee.
Our day involved a visit to a local vineyard, fresh lunch provided by his friends Vince and Karen, visit to a local artisan chocolate producer and finally a visit to a local co op.
The lunch was delicious and there was plenty of wine and chocolate tasting involved.
The hosts are very knowledgeable so if you want to learn a bit (or a bit more) about wine production, this is the tour for you.
Many thanks for a great day!

Brantome Police Horses & Friends

Providing a loving and final home for retired British Police horses. Brantome Police Horses provides care and rehabilitation for many horses and ponies alongside donkeys, dogs, cats, sheep, goats and chickens. We are situated in the heart of the countryside, ten minutes north of Brantome, South West France. Our primary aim is to provide a safe and caring environment for retired British Police Horses, for the rest of their lives. We open to the public on certain afternoons - always a Wednesday afternoon. Other afternoons will be specified on the home page of our website. We enjoy having people to visit and it is used as part of the rehabilitation process for some of our animals. We provide a great tea and there is a lovely gift shop to browse. With your help, we can give these animals the best possible care, for the rest of their lives. "Saving just one horse will not change the world, but surely it will change the world for that one horse."

We had an excellent afternoon here during our recent stay in the Dordogne. La Grange is a beautiful setting in the countryside a few kilometres from Brantome (between Perigeux and Angouleme). The visit includes a short talk and presentation explaining the background to the facility, followed by the opportunity to meet a number of the retired police horses. It was fascinating to hear their stories and the bravery they had exhibited while working. After that the afternoon tea including home made scones and cakes with tea or coffee rounded the afternoon off superbly. My wife and our friend Jim are both Coeliacs and the gluten free scone and lemon drizzle cake were both judged to be top notch. This is a very relaxed afternoon with the opportunity to spend more time with the horses after tea as well as visiting the gift shop if you wish to support the work further.

We had picked 3 caves to go too, and this was one of them. We weren't disappointed. They allow only a limited number of people to visit at a time, but well worth it. You purchase your tickets at Font de Gaume and then it is just a few kilometers away. Amazing cave paintings to see. Highly recommend.

We arrived at 11am and were warmly welcomed. Being kitted up, safety demonstration and intial training were efficient and easy to understand.
There are four increasing levels of difficulty, green (for children under 130cm) which consisted of two courses, followed by blue (3 courses) , red (3 courses) and black (1 course). For younger children there is a play area with swings and play frames, and a relaxing area, consisting of hammocks. There are a couple of kiosks selling drinks, ice creams and sandwiches, but bring plenty of water, especially if hot.
Cost was approximately €60 for one adult and three children, with an adult needing to supervise the 6 year old at all times. He had had enough climbing after 2.5 hours as he was only allowed on the green courses , but was happy to spend the rest of the time in the play and relax areas.
The 8 and 10 year old tackled the high ropes and zip wires for almost 5 hours, getting as far as red course 2. When one got stuck, a member of staff was readily available to climb a tree and pull her to the platform.
It is quite a physical course, but a lot of fun and worth the money.
