The Contour Hotel was on the edge of town and quite big with a decent pool area. The rooms and resort are in need of some maintenance and renovations. Staff seem to be in short supply like most places across Australia at the moment but they try hard. The restaurant on the other hand is a stand out and has absolutely delicious food!

Rude and unwelcoming

Reviewed By SueinNT

What a terrible experience. Other guests were appalled at the way I was treated. Apparently two ways to book this accommodation. Website Kathys Bnb. Or AirBnb. Soon found out if you book on airBnb Kathy ain’t too happy as she has to wait for her money (as she told me ). Hence I am a spoken to abruptly. Told off for not waiting in her lounge for the delivery of my pizza. Room had junk and an unused bar that looked awful The room had no atmosphere and was so far from homely. It cost me $170 for one night. The pillows were paper thin. The sheets cheap. Breakfast was provided I joined them ( Kathy and a couple in another room who had booked through the Kathys website ). I was instructed by Kathy to take the breakfast items from continental breakfast. Couple were having bacon and eggs I asked about the provision of bacon and eggs to which Kathy replied ‘ you don’t get that as you booked through air bnb and I have to wait for my money ‘ !!!! Was she serious. Yes. Further on she continued to be rude and ignore me infront of the other guests who acknowledged my concerns with her attitude. I discussed with her on leaving only to be told I was rude and my behaviour was not acceptable. What ??!! I had ordered the pizza and apparently that was a disruptive event I had not sat down with the other guests on my arrival but I didn’t even know they were guests till the morning as I thought they were Kathys friends. I had a shocking sleep and had to sms Kathy to postpone my breakfast until 7 am instead of 6 am as previously arranged That was apparently one of her concerns with me. She was cross at me for what seemed like the simple fact I had booked through air bnb Kathy - you need to take it off Airbnb if you don’t like their system You also need to be mindful of how your attitude may impact on people

THE LODGE

Reviewed By ecat17

After a previous attempt to get to GE which was dashed because of a covid lock-out, we finally made it to GE. Gihan and Jon made it easy to contact them and access the situation. We had numerous phone calls to check things out as not only Covid but Cyclone Tiffany made it hard to confirm arrangements. We only stayed 2 nights but we each got a great spa room with sea views. The rooms are large and have every thing you need. The property has a great swimming pool and a restaurant and bar. The meals were great and you could eat as much as you wanted. We were not interested in fishing but chose to do the 4wd tour around the island. Jon Eddy was our guide/driver and he was a wealth of knowledge about manganese mining and local issues. We visited Angurugu, the mine and had lunch at Umbukumba after seeing the cave paintings. It is well worth taking this trip.

Plenty of towels, a fridge and freezer and a great variety of utensils and cooking facilities. Brilliant location being right next to the town square and shops. The lovely man working on reception was very helpful and polite and was able to answer any questions I had.

Worth a stop

Reviewed By Molly C

Spent 1night there. $36 for a powered site. Couldn't book in advance and had to take pot luck if anything was available but there is lots of space. Was so busy and full of caravans but got a powered site and it was so good there. Had dinner in the pub, paid my gold donation so I could staple a couple photos of myself and my horses on to the bar (look to the right hand corner of the bar :) ) The dinner we had was chicken schnitzel with salad and it was huge. Got a doggy bag to take some back to the van for lunch the following day, was pretty nice. The entertainment on the night was a couple singing. They were really good and the song selection was good. Really enjoyed ourselves there. The pub staff were all fantastic. Professional, working damn hard to bring our food out to us all but very nice at the same time. The owner should be proud of all his workers, even down to the guy on the quad bike directing us to our parking spot with our camper van when we first arrived, he was just really nice to talk to and gave us the time and day regardless that he was so busy. Toilets and showers are ok, have seen worse but lots here to choose from. The town/pub is about 3 km off the highway. When you drive in it is like stepping back in time with cows and a goat roaming the street. Would definitely come back if ever i was down that way again.

Much more than a place to camp

Reviewed By 858gregoryk

We stayed only 1 night but wished we could of stayed longer. Took advantage of the dinner package on Sunday evening and was delighted with quality and quantity of food. The folk at Hale have added an artistic touch by using objects from the farm and creating works of mastery. Although cold I could not resist a dip in the lap pool and dry off in their entertainment area. We had plenty of room, a firepit near by and power. Although Binns road is corrugated a places it's highly recommended as a place to relax and enjoy their hospitality.
