Chez Lulu

Reviewed By Disappointedsisters

Whereas the décor and ambiance at Chez Lulu is very pleasing and our particular server very nice, we found our meals to be lacking and another server to be rude. The quiche (tarte) was a bit overdone and serving size rather small for a main dish. The salads were lacking in ingredients other than lettuce, and they were served without the croutons as described. When we asked, they grudgingly brought a small bowl to share. The appetizer fruit and cheese plate was served with about 4 crackers. When we asked for more, as well as when we asked if there might be any bread to go with it, this was met with an extremely rude and sarcastic response from another server, telling us that we could go next door for bread!Overall, we found the restaurant to be rather stingy with their offerings. Is this restaurant not owned by the same people as the bakery next door? If so, why would they not want to tempt their customers by offering a small serving of their delicious bread to accompany an appetizer and a salad?

Brick & Tin

While visiting the area, we walked to Brick and Tin for lunch. They have a well-designed place with warm colors and a great menu. I ordered the turkey sandwich, which came on flavorful bread and had a layer of magnificent bacon marmalade. Reasonable prices and great service made this place a well-rounded, top notch lunch spot!

We enjoyed our recent lunch at Newk's in Birmingham. The cashier was friendly where you order, gives you a number and you take a seat in the cafe, shortly after the food is served, the server was also friendly and even stopped by to check if everything was satisfactory. I like that they don't solicit tips as some of the similar competitors do. No tip jar at the cashier and no space to leave a tip on the receipt. The food was very good. The bread fresh and warm on our sandwiches. I enjoyed the pasta salad and my wife enjoyed the side of cole slaw. The iced tea was fresh brewed and you are given a large (one size) cup. All in all a good lunch, a bit pricey but worth the expense. Yummy lunch, fresh food. A review of their health department score showed a recent inspection of 94 by the Health Inspector. A 94 score is very good and shows they are working hard to insure proper food handling procedures are being followed.
