Where to eat Seafood food in Madison: The Best Restaurants and Bars

October 21, 2019 Roseanne Arnett

Reviews on Seafood food in Madison, Wisconsin, United States. The sprawling University of Wisconsin sets the tone for this college town of cafes, bookstores, brewpubs, numerous restaurants (more per capita than anywhere else in the U.S.) and a good share of cultural and historical attractions. Stunning glacial waterways make the City of Lakes one of the more picturesque state capitals in the country. More than 250 parks offer residents and tourists plenty of recreational areas to choose from. If you visit the campus, be sure to try the famous Babcock Ice Cream at Memorial Union or Babcock Hall, before or after a visit to the Elvehjem Museum of Art's collection of Greek, Roman and Egyptian antiquities. And to really get into the college spirit, head over to State Street's eclectic range of ethnic restaurants. Be sure to try the mouth-watering bratwurst sandwich on a homemade bun at State Street Brats, a student favorite. At the end of State Street, the white granite, Roman Renaissance-style Capitol dominates the skyline and offers an observation platform for views of the city and lakes.

In the 1870s, a German immigrant named Otto Toepfer built the old farmhouse, which is now home to Otto’s Restaurant & Bar, for his family. The architecture is in keeping with style of homes built during that time. It has a 2-foot-thick foundation and was

We have visited many Bonefish Grills across America. They are consistently well managed. As a national chain, the menu is consistent across locations. The Madison venue is less than five years old. It is pleasant with excellent lighting/decor/noise level. There is a bar area with seating capability. There is a private room. The large dining room has booths and tables. On this occasion, we ordered swordfish with pumpkin ravioli and pecan crusted trout with mashed potato and haricot vert beans. Both were very good. Wine list is acceptable. We had a very good Pinot Grigio from Italy (Bella Sera). It was moderately priced. Wait person was attentive and professional. Reservations are a must.

I was impressed with the food and the service was also good. The decor is acceptable and it's easy to find. The bar, well that's another story. Only 1 whiskey, Dewars, and no tomato juice to make my favoite vodka drink. I'm wondering if this isn't a shot and a beer kind of place at heart. I can recommend the sweet potato fries, the brisket, and the chile with corn bread. My wife enjoyed the crab legs but cracking is a nuisance. For me, it's more of a lunch kind of place. Bottom line, come for the food but not the bar and definitely don't worry about wearing the grungy end of your wardrobe.Thank you for the review. Our bar is limited but we do have a nice selection of bourbons and rye. I am sorry we didn't have what you were looking for as far as cocktail ingredients. I am pleased you were happy with your meal and we hope to see you again soon.

Tempest Oyster Bar

Reviewed By Hapco1

Tempest has been a favorite for many years but not sure what happened this past Saturday Nite. Our party of 6 were seated at 7:15 in a half full restaurant. Our waiter who seamed very aloof took our drink order and after some time came back to take our app order. Four of our party had Oysters Rockefeller which were not made with spinach or hollandaise, just saturated with bacon and dry bread crumbs. really bad. The raw oysters were as always very good.Again we waited for our waiter and when he came we had to ask about the specials and got a very short description with very little explanation. Now for the part I hate the most , 4 of 6 entree's were presentedand it took 4-5 min for a filet/ potato and fried shrimp/ asparagus to come out. All 6 meals were cold. There is no excuse for this to happen, especially an upscale restaurant that is half full. If two waiters had presented the food when it came up it would have hot and this would have been a better review.

Had dinner at Red in Madison, WI on Mon 07/15/19 at 4:30pm. This is a 2015-2019 Certificate of Excellence restaurant and one of the top ranked eateries in town. We weren't sure what to expect and was surprised to find the menu was almost exclusively sushi. OK, we like sushi, and were very pleased with the food's artistic preparation and taste. Service was excellent but portions were small and prices high. Our cost before tip was $50.64 and we still left a bit hungry.Restaurant is only a few blocks from the state capital on the ground floor of a large commercial building. Although we sat inside their outdoor seating caught our eye as we drove by. Finding an open street parking space we ventured in and were seated in a combo booth/table. Restaurant had just opened at 4:30 so was almost empty when we arrived. Kind of an artistic design with wall hugging curved booth/table seating, lots of glass and typical lighting. Floors tables and utensils were all clean. Noise level was average and you can easily carry on a conversation. Our server Lawrence arrived quickly to take our drink order and answer questions about the many different sushi rolls. Lawrence was a well trained professional and provided attentive service throughout the meal. Time from order to drinks, food and bill were all good.I had the Dragon's Treasure $21.00 and excellent. Beautifully constructed and delicious but a disappointingly smallish portion for the price. Also got a craft beer for $6.00. Wife chose the Mermaid Roll $18.00 and an unusual ice tea for $3.00. We both enjoyed the sushi, ate everything on the plate, left happy, but neither of us left full.
