Savannah Blue

While traveling to Detroit for business, I have a few opportunity to try some nice restaurants. On the first evening, I went out with a small group of people from Japan. They usually are taken to steakhouses, for that is what they are familiar with when they travel to the US. Now, I wanted something more unique, different, and interesting. Once we were settled at our table, they brought huge pieces of cornbread! My goodness! They looked really good, but unfortunately, it was just a-ok... it was kind of dry… Now, the main food. I told the Japanese guys about what they have, and they were mostly interested in Fried Catfish. Why? Well, you can’t really find that in Japan. They all ordered it with different side dishes, and they all absolutely LOVED it! For me, I had something different in mind. I wanted the Whole Red Snapper w/ Savannah Red Rice. Can I get “WOW!” on the photos? And the fish was quite amazing, it was as good as it looked! The crispy exterior was keeping the inside moist and juicy, packed with flavor! It was a fun dish to have for sure. This dish was so huge and filling, I could not eat them all… I also had Collard Greens and Mac N’ Cheese. The collard greens were good, but the Mac N’ Cheese, not so much…since the main dish was so amazing, compared to that, these side dishes didn’t shine at all. The service was good, not overly friendly but polite and professional. We were well taken care of. My colleagues enjoyed the food so much, they wanted to go back the next evening! We didn’t have such opportunity, but they did get an awesome dining experience they will not forget!

Very friendly waitress.... informative and described each drink… We stopped for appetizers and drinks but there were no drink prices on the menu! The food was just average...Saganaki was made with pepper jack cheese and not goat cheese…disappointing. My husband enjoyed his oyster Rockefeller.

This is a nice restaurant serving a variety of entre's and full menu bar located in the downtown setting that is in almost walking distance to sports arena and theater district. Serving staff was polite, nice, and prompt and the food quality was outstanding and very much unique for the similar food items available at competing restaurants. The appetizers were unique and so were the entre's of seafood, steak, and burger. The drinks had some unique names and were sumptuous.

Scotty Simpson's Fish and Chips

Born and raised in Detroit, I have lived in CA for over 30 years. Somehow I had never heard of Scotty Simpson's, and learned of it only by reading reviews in Trip Advisor. When visiting my old home town last week, I made sure to visit. Wow, what I have been missing.Others have commented on the location and decor so I won't, but, suffice to say, all accounts are accurate. For me, the toughest part of great fish and chips is to create a crisp crust that is very light. Scotty has done just that. My plate had 3 nice sized pieces of cod with some very good fries. The coleslaw was just OK but who cares?Despite my begging an pleading, I could not pry lose the batter recipe. Who can blame them? If, like me, you love fish and chips, do not miss this must visit restaurant.
