First, using chop sticks to tear apart a salad is not an enjoyable task. We have noticed this trend as this has been our favorite Japanese restaurant for many years but it seems the pieces of lettuce are getting bigger and bigger. Second, the menu just doesn't excite the reader. Make it come alive with some comments (IE. Chef's Favorite or House Specialty). Now for the good part. Everything else about this restaurant is wonderful. The food is much better than other sushi type of restaurants for miles around. A great place to get away from the crowds and enjoy a really nice lunch or dinner after a long day.

Still my favorite (and only) go-to sushi spot! Freshest fish, most creative dishes, friendliest service. Some menu highlights: Mexican Sushi Pizza - Fried naan bread topped with rice, guacamole and raw tuna; Tuna Tower - layers of edamame, avocado, apple, and a TON of seasoned raw tuna - it's an entree in itself! My kids love the sushilupa. And don't miss the teas. My favorite is the honey green iced tea, but I also love the red tea. Tempura ice cream is a family fave to finish things off. All this, and the prices are still the most reasonable of all the sushi places in our area. If you're eating sushi anywhere else, you're paying way too much AND missing out on the best sushi in the NY metropolitan area.

We've lived in the area for 20 years. Nagoya offers the best sushi, especially the "special" rolls. I prefer anything with tuna and the Alice Roll and/or Crazy tuna roll fit the bill. We take out often from the restaurant and it's always fresh and very good. I like beef negamaki in general, though it's not one of their stronger offerings, so I'd stick with sushi. We've dined at the restaurant as well and the employees are all very friendly and pleasant. It's a bit pricey, but I'd rather pay up for quality (fresh) sushi than somewhere else that I don't trust.
Ordered a Create your own rice bowl. Rice bowls here are served cold - a large bowl of cold rice with cold vegetables - yuk. I don't think the green stuff was asparagus - did not taste like asparagus, did not look like asparagus. On top of that, the order was incorrect.I did not eat most of it.

Simply the best sushi in NJ. This place beats out all the other sushi places I've been to; on flavor, quality, preparation, consistentcy and presentation. The price is commensurate with the quality and a good value. The owners are super sweet folks and their staff is very good. . Everything on the menu is great.Enjoy!

We have been here several times and had stopped going because of the bad press but decided to give it a try again and the sushi is still delicious and always tastes fresh. The half price sushi menu is great and a good deal

This is a high-end sushi restaurant in the middle of Westfield-the fish is very fresh and the portion sizes are generous. In comparison to other sushi restaurants akai is a little more expensive, about 25% in some cases. The service was very attentive, and the food was excellent. We enjoyed the Caribbean salad which had a great portion of fresh fish, a basterd roll and a few other assorted items that overall I would rate very highly. Normally I can eat quite a bit of sushi and get hungry again later, but I was very full afterward and quite satisfied.
