Another pleasant trip to our favorite sushi restaurant. We had a nice lunch and experimented trying their Crispy Chilled Tuna. Very interesting flavor as it was sashimi over avocado with a slightly salty, pepper, nut topping.Never disappointed here. Highly recommended!

Sushi Ninja

The first time I visited Sushi Ninja was 12 years ago in the old location. I wasn't too impressed with the sushi during that visit. I can't remember why, but I think it had something to do with the eel sauce. Fast forward to today... this doesn't feel like the same place. In fact, it totally exceeded my expectations. It's in a bigger and brighter location where Burger Monger used to be. I love everything that they did to renovate this space. The atmosphere went from a 3 star to a 5 star as soon as they opened up the new location. I was also impressed with the service, and the attention to details.I've been there twice in the last 2 days. I know, we have many great sushi restaurants in the Brandon/Riverview/Valrico area. They're all special in their own way. But this place is unique in that they also have boba milk teas and smoothies, as well as a build your own poke bowl menu. I was so happy to have a milk tea of my choice along with some sushi. There's a huge variety of sushi rolls. Most of them are specialty rolls. There are a lot with cream cheese (if that's your thing). I don't like cream cheese in my sushi rolls, but I'm pretty sure that I can ask for one without it. I ended up selecting the Ninja Lobster Roll. It was pretty awesome! The baked cheesy lobster topping really took it to the next level. The only negative to some people would be that the rolls are small, and maybe rolled more tightly than other sushi rolls I've had in the past. It's not a bad thing IMO. I was actually happy with the smaller pieces. I hate when they roll them too big. I also had eel and salmon nigiri. The issue I had with the eel sauce in the past is totally behind me now. Oh, and I almost forgot about the appetizer. The TNT Mussels are the best I've had in a while. It had a nice mixture of Japanese mayo, wasabi, and masago. Very tasty! Everything tasted great. I liked it so much that I went back for lunch. This was a take away order. This time I got the make your own poke bowl (salmon), the New York Yankee Roll, and an avocado smoothie. What a treat! I loved the house poke sauce and everything that I picked to go into the bowl. My mother liked the fried fish protein in her bowl. Everything blended well together. The sushi roll had my 3 favorite types of fish (tuna, salmon, and escolar). The rolls were small, but it was definitely more fish than rice. Again, it was just rolled more tightly so that it doesn't fall apart. Last but not least, the avocado smoothie was so good. It was sweet, smooth, & creamy. I wasn't expecting that. It was the perfect dessert drink. They totally have me hooked now. I'm looking forward to the next visit. Can't wait to try more sushi rolls like the Mardi Gras and Dancing Eel rolls. Oh, and it's all right here in Bloomingdale Square. This will be an even better plaza once the renovations and newer stores are constructed. Looking forward to all of that too.

We had fun here. The service was fast and friendly. I had two sushi rolls that were very fresh. My hubby had beef negimaki, which was fresh and perfectly seasoned. The atmosphere is modern but the crazy blinking lights around the bar area is a bit much. Their cocktail menu looks pretty good and I'd like to come back to try some.

Looks like someone needs to speak up about this place. First off, bathrooms had sticky floors. Tables were sticky...my food order consisted of a bowl of salty soy sauce infused broth. I can only imagine what went into prepping this. I have truly never seen a restaurant serve something this bad...oh, all bowls came with two mushroom slices...fried rice was served separately from all other items. The salad that came with the meal was a bowl of lettuce...nothing else was in the bowl. The dressing had absolutely no flavor. Next, burned vegetables were served. Then, some sugary flavored noodle. Two bowls of some condiment were placed in front of each diner. One was a terrible ginger, sugar sauce and the other was some kind of sugary mayonnaise. I am not sure why that was served at all. No one knew what to do with these condiments as they did not go with anything we ate, especially since the noodles were sugary sweet already. Lastly, we were served chicken and salmon..Each one was cooked in a sickeningly sweet teriaki, sugar glaze. The dinner plate was full of items that all tasted the same. I really had a hard time eating this food. This was not inexpensive for what they served. In fact, it was probably the very worst restaurant I have eaten at in many years. I do believe that it is also probably time for the board of health to check this place out.
