I would think if you want a special evening, a splurge, or celebration dinner, there can be no better restaurant in Port A than Venetian Hot Plate. Authentic delicious gourmet Italian food and wine in an unassuming location in Port Aransas, TX. Lovely ambiance, upscale, warm friendly service..not inexpensive, but worth it. This was our first trip to PortA, so little to compare withEach in our party had something different from seafood to filet mignon to pasta...all were excellent. Desserts also wonderful. Will definitely return if in the area. Be aware there is a 3% surcharge for using credit card, cash preferred. Reservations recommended.

Shells Pasta & Seafood

Reviewed By Greg D

This restaurant was recommended by an acquaintance and we were excited to try it out. Got there at opening, as suggested, and were seated immediately. Service was very good, wishing I could say the same for the food. Started with the crab, shrimp mango ceviche which was nice and light. Plenty of seafood inside and the homemade chips were a nice touch. Wife ordered the gluten free rice pasta with shrimp. The dish came without any shrimp so we sent it back only for it to return with a bowl of steamed shrimp next to it, which had no flavor as they weren’t cooked in the pasta. The right thing to do would be remake the dish with the shrimp in it, or at bare minimum mix the shrimp into the dish instead of sending out a bowl of shrimp. Didn’t resemble the description as it didn’t have sprouts and the sauce was primarily tomato sauce and sriracha.I ordered the rare tuna taco and the fish was cooked perfectly. However the tuna taste gets lost in the tortilla and fixings. On the second taco I just ate the filling and it was much better. The place filled up quickly and by the time we left had people waiting to get in. We felt like we were maybe we were there on an off day?? There are a number of other dishes that looked good so we may give it another try.
