The population was 16,283 at the 2010 census. A former farming and mill town, Amesbury is today largely residential. It is one of the two northernmost towns in Massachusetts (the other being neighboring Salisbury).

Stopped in for dinner with friends, on a whim. The dining area & bar have an old house feel - not kitschy like your grandmother's "old", but colonial old. Perfect for Newburyport. The menu looked great, and our waitress offered wine suggestions, based on our dinner choices. All good!Unfortunately, the meals were fairly bland. Two of us ordered the bolognese sauce over macaroni, at the waitress' recommendation. She said it was a house specialty. It sorely needed some salt & pepper, and was fairly tasteless. Our third dining partner ordered the lasagna, and he proclaimed it among the best he's had. Go figure.So, maybe it was an off night in the kitchen? Maybe there are highs and lows? I'd give it another try, if only to sit at the cozy bar with wine & apps.

Anthony's in Seabrook, NH, is one of those facilities often cited as "hidden gem". This place meets the definition of hidden gem. It's a local sports bar, in a small strip-mall, but with outstanding daily PM Italian cuisine. Their Fri, Sat, and Sun AM breakfasts are easily the best in the Northeast ! Pricing is considerably less than any other breakfast places. Food is outstanding both in quality & in quantity ! Service is always the best. It's my new go-to for breakfast and for Italian ! The only downside is that it's only open for breakfast on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It's five minutes to Seabrook NH Beach, too !

Hubby was in town on business, so I was on my own for lunch. I enjoyed walking up and down the streets looking at menus, and ended up here. Glad I did! My husband and I loved the casual atmosphere of Giuseppe's. You can purchase Italian staples and fresh/frozen meals in one portion of the building, there's a take-out counter in the center, and the other side is the dining. We started with garlic bread as an appetizer - not our favorite - the bread was a little too flimsy and not garlic-y enough. My husband had the lasagna which he really enjoyed and I had porcini & portabella ravioli which was delicious but had a little too much sauce in my opinion. Our favorite was actually the dessert! The hazelnut gelato was served like a little parfait and was tasty and we had some of the most amazing carrot cake we've ever tasted! Everyone was really friendly and it was obvious that it's a local favorite. We arrived early on a Friday night and thought it wouldn't be busy yet but we still had to wait just a bit, so plan ahead if you don't like to stand in line (and parking is a little tight). We thought the pricing was slightly high but after eating at other places in the area it was comparable.

Called for a 7:00 reservation. "Ok, no problem ". Arrive at 6:45. Very busy. We were seated at 7:50. Reservations meant nothing. They seated people as they arrived. The meal was not up to their standards. The veal piccata was so lemony, it detracted from the other flavors of the dish. No tiramisu on the menu. Drink prices were high. A red wine and mixed drink was over $ 25 with tip. Service was slow with little follow up. Veal saltimboca was delicious, as was the stuffed mushrooms. I noticed that the portion sizes were smaller. All in all will think twice before going again.
