Cafe Adler

Located in a 16th cellar, this fabulous family run restaurant had lovely staff, a charming chef who provided helpful suggestions about the menu and wines and amazing fondue in every variation imaginable.
We loved this restaurant so much we ate here twice in 3 days, something I have never done before on a holiday.
It was also packed with locals which is always a good sign.

already the drive up to 10xx Meters altitude is cool.
we've been welcomed very heartly and got our table (reservation is needed). There was also a big group celebrating a birthday. This actually was the only drawback....it was quite noisy.
Service was very helpfull and they took care of us.
Food was at a high level, very very good...though a bit pricy
Location wonderful
We only can recommend this place for a change ....really good

I've had the pleasure of eating at the Hof many times over the last 20+ years. Favourites include the mixed salad and spätzli, plus many more..... It's still typical Appenzell, reasonably priced with good sized portions of well presented and very tasty food.

Aescher, Berggasthaus

Reviewed By BSmith622 - Cleveland

If you are faint at heart then you may want to avoid this restaurant. One must ride a ski lift that scales steep mountain cliffs then hike a short distance along a safe but rocky path, that winds through a damp cave and gets very narrow at parts.
But once there, this restaurant is perched in a place with an incredible view. I had the hash browns with cheese and two fried eggs. It was deeeeeeelicious.
If you want a "once in a lifetime" restaurant experience, don't pass this up.

Facilities in this modernized and upper class hotel are great, as is food. The rooms were well-equipped. The pool is fantastic and there are many outdoor activities to take advantage of in this beautiful area. Do bear in mind that this hotel also serves as a high-class rehab centre with the corresponding clientelle.

Rotsteinpass

Reviewed By Esty666 - Wickenburg, Arizona

My husband and I were on a two-day hiking tour with his hiking club and stayed the night at the Rotsteinpass mountain inn. The location on a rocky top ridge certainly couldn't be any more spectacular with a panoramic 360° view around the eastern Alps. In the evening we were even treated to the spectacle of almost a dozen ibex coming to the salt licks put out by the inn, after we'd watch them doing their breathtaking and hair-raising up and down the more or less vertical rockface stunts, faster than you could match on the ground. This inn is also a good place to start from before - or stop at after you've climbed to the top of Altmann (Old Man - 7989') an easy peak anybody can do even wihtout specific rock climbing training. You can do it without special climbing equipment.
Nowl back to the inn: the food was very limited in choice, basic and unimaginative - which I understand, as everything needs to be lugged up there. Besides, it was palatable enough. The room we had was as spotlessly clean as anything can be and had been redone in blond wood before too long, makinjg ot airy and bright. However, the room redefines spartan. It boasted twin beds, a wash basin and a few metal hooks on the wall ... and that was IT. Shared bathroom one floor down where the dorms are. Okay, when I'm on a climbing/hiking excursion high in the Alps on a barren pass, I certainly don't expect or want a Sherton or Hilton - it would be totally out of place - but what I thought was really stiff was the price: CHF 100 per night (roughly 125$ right now) - and that's per person, not for the room.
