Da Giancarlo e Rita at Hotel Mannu

Reviewed By Eric M - Italy

We went to Mannu twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. The waiter at lunch was fantastic and the service was perfect. In addition to the crisp flatbread and regular bread served in most of the restaurants in Sardegna, Mannu also served bread slices that had been baked with olive oil; like large croutons. They are absolutely wonderful. In fact, when we return for dinner we told the waiter we only wanted the bread that had been baked with olive oil.
At lunch I ordered an antipasta called Razza al Agliata. Agliata is a semi-spicy tomato sauce with lots of garlic served with a mild fish. This is a specialty of Bosa and I strongly recommend it. I had it a number of times and it was always wonderful. For our primo my wife and I both got the spaghetti allo Scoglio which had scampi, lobster, calamari and mussels in a tomato sauce. It was excellent.
We arrived for dinner about 8 and there was almost no one in the restaurant. The service again was excellent. For our antipasti I ordered Gattuccio in Agliata and my wife ordered the seafood soup which turned out to be more like a stew that had a small lobster, a whole shrimp, mussels, scallops, cannolicchio, black beans and tomatoes. My wife said it was very good. She ordered a second antipasto of cooked vegetables which turned out to be a large bowl containing zucchini, green beans, cauliflower, carrots and a small potato. They had been boiled. For my primo, I ordered fish ravioli in the chef's sauce. The sauce consisted of sautéed tomatoes, wild asparagus, shrimp and other seafood. I thought it was very good.
I notice that around 9:30 the restaurant started to fill up. There was only one waiter and two assistances. I could tell that the service was starting to bog down because there were just not enough waiters. We were finished by this time so we were not affected by the slowdown in service. But I mention this only to suggest that if you going for dinner you should arrive around eight and not later in the evening.

We had an oke dinner in the restaurant. The waitress was friendly and helpfull.
We were welcomed at the restaurant with nice little amuses. With very fine different tastes in a little spoon.
Bread and oil were fine.
The choice for vergetarians, not eating fish or meat is not very big at the menu, but they were prepared to make something special.
The tastes were great.
The main corse of one of us was not very warm, but they resolved that. Only my husband almost finished his plate when my dinner finally arrived for the second time.
I was disappointed about that, because it was really quiet in the restaurant. Only three tables were occupied: in total 5 guests, so serving a cold plate is never nice but with such a little number of guests I only can explain it as not indifference and therefor it is shameful.
The espresso was also not really hot.
So at the end we had to pay €80 for this experience.

We came by coincidence at this restaurant while we were visiting Luglieri. It was such a Nice surprise. A restaurant full with locale and it surfend good (Sardien) food. Everything we had was delicious, and the housewine was great. We had choken a starter tosharte, two Sicilian maincourses, wine, water and two desserts ( they were not that spectaculaire) and it was 45 euro. We had a great afternoon and Will go back ( we are staking in Bosa) tomorrow. We really love this restaurant! Nice staff also

The owner opened the restaurant which is located in the actual farm. We wanted to try the maialetto, the piglet that is traditionally done in sardegna and we were received by an array of antipasti and great ravioli with a pomodoro sauce from heaven.
The owner is super nice and very friendly. To not miss. Better call ahead to book, especially if you want to try the roast piglet.

... figuratively and almost literally! Perched on a hilltop 5 km out of Sennariolo (itself not a big place) looking down to the sea some 10 km away. We visited on a Friday lunchtime and just ate what Gianluca, chef, proprietor, waiter and host, had to hand: ricotta he had made and enriched with his home-made myrtle jam, some other ricotta he had smoked; home-pickled aubergines, dried tomatoes (from the mayor's garden) in oil, caciocavallo cheese melted with Malvasia wine, pecorino with Gianluca's onion jam... and some hams and salamis. Those were the starters.
We followed up with pasta, an oversized dessert, some coffee... and paid EUR 52 between the two of us, including a half-litre of very acceptable white wine.
But we hadn't had a secondo piatto (main meat course) so on Sunday we came back, ate a similar array of starters but made sure to save space for the shoulder of pork braised in white wine and olive oil, and a bottle of very good Cannonau.
If the Rosa dei Venti had been open Monday to Thursday, we might have managed a third visit.

We had a memorable evening meal here while staying at the B&B opposite (run by Mrs Pinuccia's son). Very good value and food and wine kept coming. Food included local seafood (including sea urchin that we had never tried before) and homemade pasta. Prawns were beautiful and were eaten with shell and all (not pealed like we do at home). Mrs Pinuccia even provided a selection of homemade liquor at the end of the meal.
Seating was at long, common tables and this worked well, as you get to chat with others who join the table. We had an interesting selection of people from Italy and Germany (as well as ourselves from Australia) on our table and we all got on well.

The food we ate here was absolutely delish! The restaurant looked a bit weird from the outside and the interior looked like a mashup of at least 7 different styles, but man, were we amazed when we tried the food!
The waiter comes to the table to tell you the menu. He was very friendly and was open to serving a vegan dish, which was absolutely wonderful. Usually, when you say you're a vegan, you get a dry salad or a simple tasteless pasta, but this dish was wonderful.

Great food, very nice atmosphere, and honest prices. Came here while traveling in the area, under suggestion of the owner of local gas station. Not easy to find, but when you seat at the table you are ready for a very genuine and valuable experience. I am not from Sardinia but travel here very often. This is one of the best trattorie that I know in the area. Don' t expect fancy situations or food, but what you have is best quality. We started with antipasto di terra (prosciutto and salumi vari home produced), followed by two types of ravioli (hand made) and carne arrosto. But the best is when the dessert time arrives. I was in heaven, it was a mix of several "dolci al cucchiaio" (panna cotta, cream caramel, my favorites) all hand made. You add the exquisite kindness of the ownèrs. I wish to thank them for this unexpected nice experience with my review. I suggested them to open the position in TripAdvisor so I could share the info with other people. Hope it is useful.

Be prepared however to order in Italian (or any other language accompanied with pointing/hand gestuteres and other words you may remember from French/german etc classeshighschool) since they do not speak English.
