We stopped in Fontainebleau especially to eat here. The food was very well presented; beautiful and tasty - worth the 1 star Michelin. Unfortunately, it was marred by the bad service. The first server seemed stressed and irritated. He was quite young, and you got the impression that he wanted to be anywhere but there. Throughout lunch I observed how the servers made very little eye contact with customers, almost avoiding tables in case they were asked for something. One customer, sitting on his own at a table opposite, even had to get up and ask for something, because he could not get the attention of any of the servers. We asked for olive oil instead of butter with our bread. It turned out to be bitter and rancid, and when we asked a female server to change it, she rolled her eyes and tutted. However, it was quickly apparent that it was off, so we got some new olive oil. Each course was beautifully presented with a Japanese influence. Quite exquisite. One waiter who was excellent, French - of Korean descent; I believe his name was Antoine; he saved the day with his friendly and professional manner.

Finding France these days is a bit easier in the provincial cites than in Paris: Bistrot is actually a Russian word meaning "fast." But since the end of the first Napoleonic era, it has come to symbolize a typical French restaurant: a bistro in Paris...MoreHi Gastronome, Thank you for you advice, we are happy you enjoyed our 50's ambiance & food. We would be happy to see you again, here with us. Best regards. -SD

Jet lagged and looking for a good meal on our first night in Fontainebleau we stumbled on this place on a side street. Hadn't checked TripAdvidor beforehand and tired and hungry we took a chance at 7pm on an empty restaurant that looked promising. We weren't disappointed. Tagliatelle carbonara was superb. Pasta bolognese was quite good. The appetizer offerings standard fare and well prepared.
Well prepared Italian food and reasonably priced wine. You won't go wrong.

What would you expect? This is a charming place, a refined restaurant in front of the Chateau and giving on a green and elegant terrasse.
The service is kind and easy. The menu simple and promising. And the food is just lovely, tasty, sophisticated yet not pretentious.
Beautiful wine list. The pouilly fumé is WoW! Fruity and marvelously selected.
I chose the "salade de homard" and the Tuna steak. Perfect.
A good friendly light moment.
Before diner, please take a few minutes to enjoy the evening golden light on the chateau. Very unique. S

Le Bistrot du Broc

A local institution. Set in a former antique dealer store our restaurant serves carefully chosen beef meat as well as traditional "Bistrot" recipes. Delicious home-made desserts. All our dishes are cooked from fresh high quality products and producers. Wine is my passion and the wine list is chosen accordingly. There is a lovely and sunny garden where you can have lunch or dinner from spring to fall.

We celebrated Fathers' Day at La Bistrot du Broc and had a most excellent evening! The wine list is extensive and the recommended wine was superb. The food was exceptional and service spot on. Adding to the evening was the atmosphere, classy and comfortable. Outdoor Seating and an English menu are available. To summarize our experience I would say imagine eating five-star French food around mom or grandma's kitchen table.

La Petite Ardoise

In a worm atmosphere, the team of la Petite Ardoise invites you to discover an original and home made cuisine composed of specialties from several regions of France. Our cuisine is also based on chosen and seasonal products. You have the possibility to compose your meal with starters, main courses and desserts or with small dishes (kind of french "tapas").

My wife and I use Fontainebleau as a base for a visit to some chateaux we had missed on a previous Loire Valley trip (Fontainebleau, Vaux-de-Vicomte, Maintenon, all separately reviewed), and were staying at the L'Aigle Noir, which is also separately reviewed. On one of the nights, per the front desk staff recommendation, we dined at La Petite Ardoise, and had a great visit
After a day of touring, we were typical Americans who wanted to dine a bit earlier rather than later, so arrived at 7:15 pm, and were promptly nicely received and seated on one of their outdoor tables on the pleasant street Rue Montebello, home of quite a number of eateries.
My wife opted for a glass of their Sancerre wine, 6 E, which she enjoyed. Instead of ordering a full meal, she opted for one entree of foie gras (she has yet to meet a foie gras she does not like, overlooking the manner by which this dish is created), and another of egg plant tiramisu, which she loved. She opted for the grilled vegetables as a side, met her needs for a relatively light evening meal.
I chose the dinner combination (32 E) which per my choices included foie gras, duck, and my wife and I split their Nutella tiramisu, which was absolutely delicious.
Taking into account the friendly server (who tolerated my creaky French but clearly spoke good English and provided a menu in English, and who clarified that the restaurant name, in English, translates to the word "slate", as in rock), good food, nice ambience, reasonable pricing, there is nothing more one could ask for in an evening meal in Fontainebleau. Reservations are definitely necessary as it is a small restaurant, but we literally would have no reservation in recommending it for others for a nice dinner.

Le Bacchus is located downtown Fontainebleau along the castle Diane Gardens.
After visiting the castle, we wanted a gastronomic break.
We really appreciated the restaurant for its tasty food and efficient service.
The waiter was very helpful and advised us adequately.
The inner decoration is compliant with the restaurant's name.
Prices are reasonable, making le Bacchus a perfect choice for dining.

We visited Chateau Fontainbleau and were looking for a lunch spot before returning to Paris. For 17 euro each we had (for starters) the best onion soup I have ever had and a roasted chevre salad. For the main course we both had a beef steak with French fries. The portion was so large we could not finish it.
Service was just OK because they were serving a very large Japanese group which arrived shortly after we did.

The food was overall nice, the meat is of high quality - the veal medallions with morilles sauce were especially tasty.
The chocolate dessert was 'funny/creative' but ultimately average.
While the price was reasonable for a 'fine dining' restaurant, please note that, as the restaurant is located in an old cellar ('caveau'), conversations echo quite a lot and if there's a somewhat large group dining there (which was the case when we went there), this can become quite noisy!

Amazing meal seated on a terrasse across the street from the actual kitchen, right on the river Seine. Sailboats floating by in the clean water, with a menu of good fish, chicken and meat choices, including an excellent crawfish and shrimp ceviche salad. Fine wine list and lovely but unrushed easy service matched the calming influence of the river on our meal. The weekends sport two choices of 3 course meals, including a famous baked apple dessert. Even though they were out of the apple dessert, the fruit with sorbet alternative was over the top! The blackberries were huge and ripened perfectly and the kiwi was the best I have tasted.
