Based mainly on TripAdvisor reviews and YouTube videos, we opted to make the 90-minute car trip from Montreal up to Parc Omega, rather than the 2.5 hour drive to Quebec City where we had visited before. Boy, were we glad we did. Even in the snow and cold of February, the trip through the park was magical. After paying our admission ($31 CAN per adult) and loading up on carrots at the store near the entrance ($2.50 CAN per bag), we had our first encounter within minutes with a herd of deer. As we had arrived shortly after the park opened, they were eager to be fed and swarmed the car on all sides. I had read some reviews saying that the larger, horned animals could be aggressive and cause damage to the car, so we had pulled in the side mirrors beforehand, but the deer were very gentle and EXTREMELY friendly. Next, we came across a herd of wild pigs with their adorable piglets, all of whom wanted a snack. Next, some elk who were just enormous and majestic. More deer of a different variety, more pigs, lots of animals with horns that I wouldn't even venture a guess to name and then... the bison. I swear they were larger than our compact rental car! Just unbelievable to be so close to the native wildlife of Canada. We drove past the enclosures of arctic wolves and black and grey wolves and stopped for photo ops with the water buffalo. We even saw a brown bear at a distance, but couldn't figure out why he had come out of hibernation. I'm sure I've forgotten some of the animals we encountered because there were SO MANY! Toward the end of the visit, we stopped to walk the First Nations Trail and see the beautiful totem poles which are very different than any we had seen in Vancouver and exquisitely nestled around the shore of a lovely lake. We somehow missed the wolf presentation (there's only one at 1pm on weekdays), but I have a funny feeling we'll be back when next we visit Montreal. In my book, this is a must-see attraction if you're in the area.

Fromagerie Montebello

Hubby and I try to get to Montebello once a year. It's a charming little town. We stay at Chateau Montebello but pop in to the village numerous days during our stay for dinner at one of the local establishments or to visit the Fromagerie Montebello.
In the summer time Fromagerie Montebello offers a take out cheese plate that includes at least three types of their cheese, a mini baguette, some chutney, etc. It's a fantastic price and a great way to get to sample their wares.
The staff have always been top notch and extremely friendly and helpful. Aside from their wonderful cheese that is made on the premises they also have a great selection of foodie items for sale hot pepper jellies, balsamic vinegars, pates, sausage, etc. You really have to check it out!
We always make one last trip to the Fromagerie as we are leaving town and we stock up with their cheese to bring home for friends. Our hands down favourite is the "Adoray", a soft cow's milk cheese that has been wrapped inside a ring of spruce bark!!!! Flavours of wood shavings, spices and damp hay. It's truly wonderful and very unique.
GO HERE! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!!

We had a great 90 minutes touring on the electric bikes at Explora. We decided to take two bikes and put the kids (11 and 14) on the back. The directions from point to point are pretty clear. The riddles at each step are okay (English translation is wonky so there's an advantage for French speakers, for sure). We took the mountain trip, which was great since we'd already walked the Montebello trails. All in all a very fun activity. Kids wanted to do it again today!

Lieu historique national du Canada du Manoir-Papineau

Passing through Montebello and saw the sign for this historic site. We parked up and walked through the woodland to reach the Manoir. We had just missed an English language tour of the house and didn't have the hour to spare to wait for the next tour.
However, the walk through the grounds, was very peaceful, the views of the river were beautiful and the information boards dotted around the property were very informative. So the stop was well worth it, and anyone with children would find it a good break in the open air even if they didn't want to visit the house.

Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello Lobby Bar

Reviewed By pencilcase - Kingston,on

We were on a bus tour and had lunch here. Overall the building is very outdated. It's dark and seemed very gothic. The dining area is lovely and we ate in an enclosed patio like area off the dining room. The tables were elegantly set up and the waiters were always readily available. The buffet set up had delicious food at several different stations. Everything that we ate was decadent. The only complaint would be that everyone in the building seems to eat at the same time, ie bus tours, conferences etc. There were long lines at each station and it was a bit chaotic. Might suggest that different groups start eating in 15 minute intervals. After our lunch, we were stuffed! We walked over to the indoor pool which is huge but also very dated. Walking back through the building we were able to peak into a guest room that was being cleaned. It looked very small and similar to a cabin in the woods. Not sure I'd want to pay big bucks to stay here but there was talk that the resort has new owners who are going to do some upgrades.

Les Brasseurs de Montebello now brew 4 different beers. The Fantome d'Ézilda and now the Kenauk ale are probably the best beer I ever tasted. Strong, but not harsh. Very good with a belgians fries from the restaurant Délice Champêtre near by. ( they do allow customer to come eat their meal while enjoying the beer!)
The 1 liter bock of beer is the best deal ever, only 9$ each refill, but be sure to have a designated driver.
