There is an exceptional amount of bouldering to be done in this Forrest. We spent a solid 4 days climbing and have barely scratched the surface!
Lots of great shaded areas for lunch and the paths/circuits are all reasonably self explanatory. The problems are tough and my confidence took a bit of a knock but overall I absolutely loved it!
Will absolutely be returning.
Would recommend staying at Bois-Le-Roi at a lovely place called the "tiny house". The gite is perfect for 2-4 people and mats can be hired from the great host. (Can be found on AirBnB)

Fontainbleau was definitely worth a daytrip outside of Paris. It was easy to get to using a 1-day Metro/RER Mobilis Zones 1-5 Pass (cheaper than individual one-way fares from Gare de Lyon, metro to Gare de Lyon, and bus when arriving in Fontainbleau-Avon), plus public transportation is free for the remainder of the day. Board the RER train heading to Gare de Montargis/Melun (Purple Line R), and get off after 3 stops to Fontainbleau-Avon. The bus depot right outside of the train station will have a sign for Bus 1 (heading to Les Lilas direction), and after a 10-15 minute ride, you can get off at the Chateau stop. You can then walk through the garden to get to the main entrance.
Be aware that the chateau can suddenly close between 12-2, with a notice posted on the door (last timed entry ticket available was at 11:15). After arriving at 11:20, I sadly missed the last timed entry and had to wait until the chateau reopened at 2:00. Thank goodness for January sales to while away the time. Despite this hiccup and the fact that the famous horseshoe staircase was under renovation, it was still worth the wait. The papal and Chinese apartments were also closed but luckily the Napoleon apartments and the rest of the palace were amazing to see.

C'est avec une forte affectivité que je vais parler de ce monument historique puisque c'est là que je me suis marié. Au-delà de ça, il s'agit d'un des plus vieux édifices religieux de la région. Cette petite église romane séduit pas ses poutres en bois et sa construction en pierre. Ce qui est moins connu c'est que tous les rois de France sont venus assister à la messe ici depuis François Ier. Louis XIII y a même été baptisé.Nos 2 empereurs y sont aussi peut-être venus.
L'intérieur est très banal, le sol un peu déformé. Dans un coin, un hommage aux Résistants locaux Rémy Dumoncel et surtout le père Jacques qui fut déporté pour avoir caché des enfants juifs (voir le film "Au revoir les enfants").
Si vous avez un peu de temps profitez-en pour voir également les deux églises modernes du village qui valent un coup d'oeil.

We were looking for a church for Sunday Mass and the nearest was described as just being up the hill. So we went and found a multi century structure still serving the will of God. We were welcomed and although the service was in French, it was not to difficult to follow along. We spent a little time after the service and could certainly tell that the church's naves were from different periods. Our host later looked it up and believed that it was from the 11th century although we could not ascertain this.

A nice and small Jewish community at this imperial city. Open Friday evenings and Saturday morning for Shabbat offices and during Holidays. They are welcome everybody whatever its origin and particularly INSEAD jews students a part from their families.
