La Moule au Pot

Reviewed By MontrachetJ

In a town of mediocre restaurants, La Moule keeps up the tradition. What makes it all the more frustrating is that there is evidence that the chef has skills; sadly, these are wasted by the amateurish approach shown overall. It started badly with the admission that having opened at seven, one of the starters was no longer available - by five past seven and with four other people present. But perhaps we were saved from ourselves- the grey mass on the tartine our neighbours ordered did few favours to the marvellous local onions. And was, incidentally, one of the side dishes served with our main courses. These could have been good if the food had all been plated at the same time, but cold mash with piping hot pork in muscadet is a bad combination. And chicken cooked in cider is best served hot. A tart champagne from a little known house was a sad reflection of what’s now available in that great region. Service throughout suggested they’d plucked individuals of the street. Everything had to be requested and the approach to desserts was first to try and dissuade us - and then never return to take our order. As I say, the chef here has skills but he needs to find a better restaurant to work in. The main business here is clearly moules. It shows. And to be fair, people we’re enjoying those.

An interesting place with a local atmosphere but not worth a second visit for food and service. The pizza was probably the worst I have had but I may have picked an off night as it was undercooked. It is not rocket science to cook a pizza. My friends meal was ok but nothing special. Service was poor and disorganised. Hopefully they will get better but I would not waste time visiting again.

We discovered this restaurant by chance and were very glad that we did. All food is home made and influenced by the owner's ability to home smoke fish. A very traditional french menu with some nice little touches such as chocolate at the end of the meal. We would definitely return. Waiter excellent too

sophisticated crêpes in a traditional house in the center of Roscoff. The owners certainly have a couple of good recipes, yet it also seems nothing can divert them from their routine, so just take your time you will be served at your turn and enjoy the food. if you wanted a quick snack this is not the place for you.

4 friends, all thoroughly enjoyed our 2-course menu du jours.A friendly welcome preceded a helpful and accurate description of the dishes. Our white fish mains were totally delicious and looked great on the (hot) plates. A choice of two tasty deserts, both excellent. I chose a taster desert, 5 mini deserts in one, which looked fabulously colourful too.Breton stone interior, free parking just over the road, lovely bread, stylish wine glasses, friendly service throughout and great value. Dining indoors and out.Merci beaucoup. Our friends had been here before and recommended it. Easy to see why!Merci beaucoup.

We stopped in here for a hot drink on a very cold, wet day, and weren't disappointed. The cafe au lait was rich without being bitter, with just the right amount of milk, and the hot chocolate tasted as though it had been made with melted chocolate. Definitely a do again if we're back in the area.

My husband and I had the most delicious dinner at Restaurant Bellevue last night. We had not made a reservation but were offered a choice of tables. The waiter was very attentive, despite being by himself and having to wait on quite a few tables. We choose a bottle of Pinot Noir and ordered from the menu 26 Euros. There was a choice for all three courses. Each course was quite delicious and the plates looked as pretty as a picture. Definitely on the fine dining scale but at a fraction of the cost. Slices of bread arrived as and when required. We only paid for our meal and wine as no extras were charged. We would highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely return on our next visit to Roscoff.

We stayed overnight pre-ferry and whilst the hotel provided as expected it was not a particularly enchanting stay. Our rooms were average, the greeting was average and the hotel's decor rather uninspiring. The restaurant has a Michelin star although on this occasion we chose not to use it; however in the past we have enjoyed the food but found the whole eating experience way too sombre. This hotel will, I'm sure, fulfil the needs of many but for us it needs to have a major uplift in its atmosphere before we would stay again. It did not strike us as a happy hotel!Having said that it is a great location, an interesting building, and serves a worthy purpose for travellers.

Reviewed By MMackDevon

I read the reviews for this establishment and we really wanted to try it, so prior to a recent flying visit I phoned and booked a table for Saturday lunchtime service. We have been coming to France for many years and really enjoy the concept of menu du jour or plat du jour and it always used to be such an occasion, but in recent years it seems that while food standards are still good the presentation was lacking, well that is certainly not the case at Le Brise Lames. When we visited (Oct 18) you could select 2 courses from the menu du jour for €17 or 3 courses for €19 euro during the week. During evenings, weekends and bank holidays that price rises to €19 for 2 courses and €22.50 for 3 but it is still exceptional value. They also have an a la carte menu you can choose from if you wish.We were greeted and seated by very pleasant waiting staff who furnished us with our choice of drinks (a very nice 50cl carafe of red wine for €11), some water and an amuse bouche which was a light and delicious mouthful. This was followed by the starter and main course from the menu du jour, which in this case was mushroom veloute followed by fillet of haddock with vegetables and pasta. Both of these dishes were an absolute revelation, beautifully presented and really imaginative and both were served with delicious homemade, still warm, bread. I don't generally hold with people taking pictures of their food but I just had to because I was amazed by the flavour of the food and the standard of the presentation for the price. While we were there a few people came in that had not booked and were turned away so if you do decide to go then be sure to make a reservation. The restaurant is quite small, perhaps 30 or so covers and seems to be very popular, and quite rightly so.The food is the star of the show, of course, but the waiting staff were very friendly and also the table was really nicely laid out with some gorgeous glassware.I understand from previous reviews that the current owners have not been there very long, they should be very proud of what they have achieved. We will definitely go back when we return to Roscoff again in a few months.
