What a great visit. We were in town for the first time and wanted to try the famous chili. Food was good. My daughter loved chili cheese fries. The entire staff welcomed us and chatted with us and gave all type of recommendations. I had the smell 4 way and hubby at the cheese conies. Chili is full of a lot of spices and more of a meat based.

I just can't get enough of those little swedish meatballs, and my husband loves the chocolate cake. The kids will normally eat the meatballs too. I love getting swedish specialties like current or elderberry flavored items. Their salmon is actually good too. A great break after walking through the store for an hour or two.

The Root Beer Stand

The Root Beer Stand has been a close-knit family operation from day one and remains so today. As a matter of fact, both of our main cooks met the men they married while working at The Stand. They were carhops back in the 60's, and still enjoy the fast-pac

Open since 1957, this diner is a landmark in the area. Root Beer by the gallon, Root Beer Floats, Ice Cream, hot dogs, footlongs, burgers, sandwiches, chili and chips. Limited seating inside, but multiple picnic tables in the back and a playground. Great place for families with kids. My kids are in their 20's. If I said meet me at the Root Beer Stand, they would be there when I pulled in.Thanks! Glad you and your family enjoy it. See you this summer.

Steak 'n Shake

Steak 'n Shake, a classic American brand, was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois by Gus Belt who pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milkshakes. For over 85 years, the company's name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word "steak" stood for

When in Indianapolis last week, the hotel directed me to a 24-hour Steak and Shake just down the street. I ordered a double cheeseburger with pickle/mustard and fries for take out. The cheeseburger was juicy. Now, spring forward to last Saturday afternoon. I stopped at another S/S this time in the East Gate area (out of Cincinnati). I ordered the same—double cheeseburger (pickle/mustard), fries , but added a drink because I dined inside. The cheeseburger was so dry that I had to pour ketchup on the paddy. Why was the Indy burger juicy but the East Gate dry? The young man grilling the cheeseburger in Indy placed the scoop of “steak Burger” on the grill, flattened it, let one side cook, and then flipped to the other side. He then slid it onto the bun. I watched him. Now, the person frying the “steak burger” at the East Gate location also placed a scoop of meat on the grill, flattened it into a paddy, and during the frying process, pressed with all of her effort on each patty—both sides—while they were cooking. She turned them several times. The result: dry. (By the way, she was small in stature, wearing a blue shirt, glasses, and dark hair. Events must not have been going her way, so she was taking out her frustrations on the grilled patty.) I can cook hamburgers like that.

This visit was not as enjoyable as most. My sandwich was packed for carryout instead of the requested dine-in. That's no biggie, but it does indicate a lack of attention to detail. My sandwich did not come as ordered and was not the usual piping hot. Even the French fries were not as hot as usual. The restaurant, by the way, was not as busy as usual.I'll give this location another shot and try them again to see if things have changed or if this was just an off day.

I love Chick-fil-a, I have been a loyal customer. I supported them through the birth control/ right to life debate. Waited in long lines to show my support for their rights as a company. Well yesterday they lost me! They have cut chicken salad cups from the items offered. This is a huge disappointment to me as this was the only item I routinely ordered.I will not go back. Bad business decision Chick-for-a!
