Deli is chock full of sausages, cheeses, breads, and desserts from the Old Country. Restaurant plays on this variety every day, with too many great options to choose from! Dedicated parking lot a real plus, too. Dine in and take lots of goodies home! (My favorite sausage so far is the Moroccan lamb.)

We arrived for lunch and the host was not friendly at all. Walked up to the podium/desk and just looked at us....then one of us said how many will be in our party awkwardly. Once seated took several minutes for the server to come despite the empty restaurant. Once we got going with our order we didn't see the server again for refills or anything until our food was ready to come out. After we got our food the server came around a little more to see how everything was. The food was just okay, nothing special about it. Wish I could say something better about this place because it is a great location and was excited to try it out, however, was essentially let down.Dear 4marleed,Thank you for your honest feedback. I sincerely apologize for the concerns you shared regarding your experience. I've discussed your comments with our team and we are working diligently to prevent a similar situation from occurring in the future. I hope you will give us another chance to exceed your expectations the next time you are dining in the area.

FIKA

It is the new Cafe inside the American Swedish Institute

I once spent a summer in Copenhagen working at Herlev Hospital. Lunch was a real treat. The variety and beauty of the smørrebrød was amazing. Toppings like sliced hard boiled egg and radish, salmon, shrimp, ham, and the like, artfully arraigned on a piece of dense, moist rye bread (Rugbrôd) were delicious. I have been unable to find anything like this in Baton Rouge. I asked my daughter to find some in Minneapolis we could try where were there for Thanksgiving. She found FIKA, a restaurant in the American Swedish Institute. Indeed they had smørrebrød, called smorgåsar at the ASI. They were different from those in Denmark in that they were larger and served on a normal rye bread. I had a Smörgåsar with shrimp, saffron-lemon aioli, horseradish, dill, soft boiled egg, and lettuce on Danish rye. The rye base was about twice the size of the roggerbrood on the smørrbrød I would get for lunch in Denmark. But it was delicious. My wife had Juniper-spiced Swedish Meatballs served with puréed potatoes, cucumbers, lingonberries and a mustard sauce. My daughter had seared Kodiak Cod with creamed spinach, fennel, white beans, nutmeg, and toasted bread crumbs. We shared a cardamom bread pudding with cinnamon whipped cream and a brandy sauce for dessert. I couldn’t resist a glass of Aquavit Great lunch and a beautiful gift shop right next door.
