Restaurant & SeaFood La Nueva Gaviota

[Cerrado hasta el 29/11/2018] La Nueva Gaviota es un restaurante marisquería de Santander que recoge la herencia hostelera de más de 50 años en uno de los mejores barrios de Santander, el Barrio Pesquero.

We flew into Bilbao on Sunday 29th July and were driven to Santander, arriving at a large restaurant area at 15.00 hrs. All the restaurants in the area were extremely popular, but La Gaviota found us a table for 7, including our three grandchildren. The staff were friendly and helpful, and service was prompt and efficient. The seafood was of high quality, and my only criticism was that the paella was rather too salt. The atmosphere was relaxed and the meal reasonably priced. A very pleasant first stop on our tour of Northern Spain

A little fatigued by deep fried rabas and other creatures of the deep, we gave this nice bar a try. We had some lovely mussels in tomato sauce, great squid grilled with a nice salsa and an interesting bacalhua salad. Finished off with tasty rice pudding and cinnamon ice cream. Good value and friendly service.

After being treated unprofessionally by the waiters from the moment we arrived, we waited ages to order and we were rushed while ordering.. Everyones food arrived at different times and furthermore after having been advertised a 'vegetarian' paella i found fish in it.. Not even any apologies..Such a surprise to find it as second on santanders restaurants seen as so many others are of much higher level..

Looking for a seafood restaurant in the fishing district of Santander? Look no further, you have arrived and you will hit! Specialties of seafood and fresh fish direct from the market prepared in a delicious way while maintaining the flavor of our sea.

Yes, this is not a romantic place. Unlike stated in other reviews, they do have table cloth and tissues, but the setting is far from romantic or cosy.Go there to have seafood and leave when you are done - but people are friendly and the 75€ marisquería („tourist platter“) we shared (2 of us) was fresh, honest and abundant.Thank you for your opinion, we thank you for valuing our products, which indeed are always abundant, and above all fresh and of good quality. With regard to your comment on the romantic atmosphere, we think that love and romanticism goes beyond where the couple is, and has more to do with the moment :-)In any case it's just an opinion. Thank you for visiting us. See you again, or so we hope! :-)

It is a surprising place! Out in the middle of the country, not far from Santander, this place offers excellent paellas and quite a good service. The choice of wines is good and the value for money is average. If you are looking for a good place to eat paella in Cantabria, this is it!

El Nuevo Molino

Reviewed By quijano

I have been a fan of El Nuevo Molino for many years and have enjoyed many wonderful dinners there. However, our last meal there surpassed any previous ones. The chef has managed to devise a completely new menu, full of surprises, whilst still using local ingredients and quirky adaptations of regional specialities. There are wonderful inventions, such as razor clams in chickpea stew broth, sea urchin infused fried egg...so many new items, that we decided to try the "long and lean" tasting menu. It was all absolutely fantastic and demonstrated the artistry and imagination of the chef. The traditional items are still offered, and other tables were mixing and matching new and old.As usual, service was perfect - professional and yet very welcoming at the same time and on a unseasonable chilly evening, it was wonderful to sit next to a log fire! Now we have tried all the new dishes, I would certainly recommend all of them, but I also suggest not to ignore the local beef carpaccio, fried squid and cheese ice cream from the traditional menu. The fish main courses are always sublime, only the freshest fish is used and cooked absolutely perfectly. To summarise; this is my idea of a perfect restaurant: beautiful building, wonderful staff, amazing food and one of the best priced Michelin starred restaurant that I have visited.

Canas

Reviewed By jans1958

I've been to this place several times, both under the old and new management. In both cases the food is great and fantastic value for the money. Before, the menu was more ample with fish and seafoods, but the offer is still pretty good.Service, on the other hand, is a bit weird, the only qualification I can give to them, they are a but sour and not pleasant, but they do get your orders to the table. It's a place to try, definitely, if you can put up with the local spirit!

Their pastas are definitely worth trying. Real Italian food. Service may be a bit slow at times but you can enjoy the views while having a drink.
