My dining experiences at home and travelling are usually excellent, Travel Advisor helps with that! This week we returned to a local favorite for the 1st time in a few months, and were very disappointed. Diners in general are very friendly spots, but our entrance was made with no staff in sight. We took a table near the far left, and it was a few minutes before a server appeared from the back, and a couple minutes later appeared at our table and took drink orders Two adjacent tables we're cluttered from prior customers, though ours was clean. She next returned with menus, no silverware. Our drinks were delivered, and our order taken, but it took awhile, despite a slow night. Next came a bowl of soup, our only appetizer. Awhile later our order appeared, but the 10 inch hot dog looked like it had been rolling around one of those gas station hot dog grills for hours, dark brown, long but thin, not appealing. Unfortunately my wife's 1st and only bite tasted like it looked. The Patty Melt burger was OK, a little thin, though advertised as a quarter pounder. Grilled cheese OK as well, fries were very good, and hot, and the server apologized for the hot dog. The offer to replace was declined. For the record, the only silverware were the soup spoon and I was given a spoon, I guess for the cole slaw. No knives or forks, though fingers worked for the fries. While we were eating, a small group arrive across from us, they had to ask for silverware when their food arrived, too. Later another group of teen girls arrived near us, and chose to the clean off their table, still that way from before we arrived, 75 minutes prior. Our server dropped off our bill, though it took another lengthy wait before she returned so I could ask her if the hot dog was staying, which was ok with me, it just would have been deducted anyway. BTW, that table the girls cleared was left that way when the previous group left without paying!! We've been going there for a very long time, but will not be returning for awhile. There are plenty of other diners and great spots around, though not with the nostalgia and history of Olympia!

Ok in a pinch, but not a place I'd recommend to anyone unless everything else is closed. Large menu selection but portions are small. Have had breakfast and dinner. Breakfast is poor. Dinner was so so.

After weighing our luncheon options in downtown Berlin last that include multiple providers of greasy pizza, a couple of "locals" bars, an Indian buffet with no customers and a few chain restaurants, my wife and I settled on this diner. On entering we found the sole customers, total of 2, were just finishing breakfast. My wife ordered a grilled cheese sandwich while I settled on a patty melt, make it medium rare - thank you. Both came with a side of homemade coleslaw that proved to be pretty good. The quantity of beef was amazing, read almost overwhelming, and as juicy as juicy could be though cooked to near to well done suggesting a low lean to fat ratio. My wife's sandwich proved to be as well. Overall we were reasonably happy with both our meals and the service provided.

Got off the highway looking for a place to eat breakfast and we really lucked out with the Cromwell Diner! Service was excellent and the prices really inexpensive for very good food!! How about 2 eggs over easy with an English muffin for $4! Our food was fresh and tasty and served quickly as well! Place is right off I-91 almost midway between New Haven and Hartford...worth a stop- and they also have clean rest rooms!!

Uncle D's Diner

How long has Uncle D been in town and who is his nephew or niece? I don't have a clue, but we have regretfully passed by numerous times without ever stopping to say hello. This oversight was rectified as of this past Friday and I am pleased to report that Uncle D is doing well. On arrival we found a nearly full parking lot and, on entering, greeted warmly and advised that it would be a few minutes before a table would be available. After a 1,2,3, 4, 5 minutes, we were escorted to a comfortable booth and provided menus. The diner is attractive in a retro diner sort of way and many (probably most) of the other clientele were likely regulars. My wife and I shared a turkey club that included French fries with coleslaw and pickle optional, needless to say, but I will say it, we took said option. The ingredients were uniformly fresh though we both agreed there was a wee bit too much iceberg lettuce on the sandwich which was easily remedied. The highlight of the meal proved to be the French fries which were extra crispy on the outside and soft inside. Prices are more than reasonable and service could not have been better with our server refilling my wife's coffee cup and checking back with us periodically. We are looking forward to returning for breakfast and possibly meeting Uncle D.
