Skowhegan was originally inhabited by the indigenous Abenaki people who named the area Skowhegan, meaning "watching place [for fish]." The native population was massacred or driven from the area during the 4th Anglo-Abenaki War. As of the 2010 census, the town population was 8,589. Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture is an internationally known residency program for artists, though it is technically located in neighboring East Madison. Every August, Skowhegan hosts the annual Skowhegan State Fair, the oldest continuous state fair in the United States.

The egg roll was tasty, but mostly made of the more unhealthy fried wrapper and pork. There wasn't enough cabbage in the egg roll to feel like I was eating in moderation. The egg roll had a slightly off taste which seemed to be due to old oil. The General Tsoa's chicken was below average. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant directly, but I feel it is the best Chinese restaurant in Skowhegan.

We were seated with just a few minutes wait on a busy Sunday at about 1pm. We waited maybe 10 minutes before a waitress appeared announcing abruptly, "I don't know who's supposed to have you or if I am, but I'll grab your order." Our drinks arrived a few minutes later, our food 20 minutes after that. We didn't see our waitress again until we flagged her down for the check. The food wasn't awful, but it certainly wasn't anything worth a return visit. The brown sauce on my beef and broccoli was partially congealed and the rice bordering on greasy. I'm guessing everything else on the table started out in a frozen bulk container. The last time I visited was over 20 years ago, and not a thing has been updated even a little bit since then; serving dishes, menu, light fixtures, dirty ceiling tiles, wall decor, dated "flaming PuPu Platter"... it was nearly perfectly preserved in time, and not in a good way. If I ever return again it certainly won't be any sooner than another 20 years.

While passing through Skowhegan, we saw Pak Lee and decided to try it. It was 5pm on a Saturday and when we walked in, we were the only customers in there. 2 more tables came in through the course of our meal. We ordered combos, one with the house soup and one with wonton. The chicken corn egg soup came out first and was actually pretty good. After about 15 minutes we asked if the wonton soup was coming out and she told us that it was coming, she had to serve drinks to another table first. So a few minutes later out comes the wonton soup and our meals at the same time. I ordered chicken chow mein with white rice and chicken fingers. I was served fried rice and was tired of asking for things so I didn't complain. 3/4 of the way through our meal the waitress realized I had ordered white rice and I insisted that I did not need additional rice to add to my meal at the time. The chicken chow mein was very different than I had expected. There were peas in it and all the veggies were cut in a large dice, especially the celery. The chicken fingers were good and crispy though. My mom ordered some kind of chicken and veggie dish that was fine but it was cold. I probably wouldn't return if I was in the area again.
