Trey Yuen Cuisine of China

Dining at Trey Yuen is always a treat. The menu has grown over the years to include pretty much everybody's favorite plus Trey Yuen's own creations. Most of all the regions are represented: Hunan, Szechuan, Cantonese, etc. All done with flair, visually appealing, great tasting and served hot! Their wonton soup is delicate and superb. The appetizer platters are generous and well composed of chinese bbq, tempura fried shrimp, fried wings and egg rolls. Potstickers and crab rangoon are also favorites.Entrees are generous and, I think, one entree is more than enough for two. But get two so you'll have something for lunch the next day. I particularly like the Steak Special enter, the Presidential chicken or sweet and sour pork. Anything with Tong Cho sauce is stellar. In actuality, point a finger to any entree and you'll be happy. Any entree can be adjusted for spice level. Although tofu wasn't on the menu my friend got a lovely stir fried tofu with mixed veggies that was wonderful. Not to be missed is their seafood selection...always fresh and well cooked and presented.Specialty cocktails are also well made and generous. Try the Mai Tai or the Chi-Chi for fun before dinner drinks. The building, koi ponds, and decor really adds to the enjoyment of your visit. The staff is friendly and very efficient, although a few (but not all) could smile a bit now and then. Last time visited we had a excellent server who did a great job.

We've eaten several selections on different occasions, and the food is good, not too greasy. Nothing really exceptional, but consistently good enough to keep us coming back. Small location so as others have said, delivery or carry out is your best option. Not many competitors in the immediate area at this price point, so probably the best you'll find nearby.

Louisiana is renowned for many ethnic dishes, but Chinese isn't usually on the list. And to be fair, I'm grading this restaurant on convenience and delivery service as well as their food. That said, this is one of the better take-out Chinese restaurants I've been to in the New Orleans area.I haven't been pleased with the closer Chinese take-out restaurant lately. My 7-yr-old son was sick the previous evening and I was up with him most of night so I didn't want to even THINK about cooking! Looked around on Yelp and decided to call China Gardens to see if they delivered. (Many don't around here.) But yes! they did. Wasn't sure what to expect but I ordered my usual take-out favorites. The hot and sour soup and cashew chicken didn't disappoint -- they were both wonderful. I love hot and sour soup, but most places disappoint. This place didn't. The soup was full of mushrooms, tofu and rich broth that had just the right amount of spice. (I could've stopped there but there is a $15 minimum order for takeout, which seemed fair.) The cashew chicken had a ton of cashews, with plenty of chicken and veggies in a flavorful brown sauce. Not much "filler" stuff (bamboo sprouts and such.) I'm not a big eater, but even so the soup and the entrée were enough to feed three people. This will be my go-to Chinese takeout/delivery place from now on.
