As of the 2010 United States Census, the city had a total population of 124,969, retaining its ranking as New Jersey's fourth largest city (by population). The population increased by 4,401 (3.7%) from the 120,568 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 10,566 (+9.6%) from the 110,002 counted in the 1990 Census. For 2015, the Census Bureau's Population Estimates Program calculated a population of 129,007, an increase of 3.2% from the 2010 enumeration, ranking the city the 210th largest in the nation.

We always wanted to try it. It was great, nice mojitos, appetizers great. My husband got the oxtail and it was nicely done. I got the roast work and was good too. I like the bread with olive they give.

Located on Elizabeth Avenue, service is friendly and attentive, prices are reasonable, from under $10 specials and up. Food was very good, portions are enough for taking home for lunch next day. Nothing fancy, typical cafeteria serving Cuban & Puerto Rican food. This is a BYOB, liquor store a few stores away. Parking on street, meters- except Sunday.

I grew up in Elizabeth and Alvarez Cafe was the place to go. It is a family owned restaurant that has been in Elizabeth for ever. Their food is your authentic/traditional Cuban food and may I add the real thing.... from their rice and beans to their Cuban sandwich....Delish!

Traveled fro. Staten island to eat at this little gem.foid was so good had rice and beans with porkchops.my husband had a empanada which had tons of flavor.i felt i was in a families home having home cookef meal. Will be back with family.Loved the decor and the cleanliness of the place. Staff was very friendly and attentive.
