Ate here 2 years ago, that time it poured too. Clean and bright with friendly servers. Very good food and large portions. Dining room is quieter than front room. Place is sprinkler protected and has additional exits but they are partially obscured by fixtures and decorations and not visible from remote corners.

Ok...so the outside, and the neighborhood could be slightly intimidating. But, don't let that stop you. You're gonna miss out on some good food. The staff was so friendly and the food was delicious. The chili was great. I ordered the "Rickbo", which is a 4-decker sandwich. The atmosphere may have been a little sketch, but the food and staff were great!!!

Smokebox BBQ is a small family operated restaurant just east of MCI Airport in Kansas City off routes 29/71 where the service is amazingly fast and the BBQ is outstanding. There are several choices of meats from burnt ends through brisket, pulled pork and more, all of which come with fries, cole slaw, beans and bread, and never ending drink (waitress/family member kept refilling it every time she passed). The other many choices on the menu looked equally appealing but I went back a second night for another BBQ choice; it was that good. This is a gem of a small âfamilyâ restaurant, surrounded by other well known national brands across the highway (Cracker Barrel, Waffle House, Wendyâs and more), but more than worth the visit as itâs a special place.
