The real reason we went to this restaurant was that there was an unusual 98 degree heat wave Memorial Day weekend and a lot of the local restaurants didn't have their air conditioning in and we figured that a sushi restaurant would be air conditioned. We also assumed that a Japanese restaurant in a tiny blue collar town primarily known for its prison would be horrible. Much to our surprise, it was surprisingly good. It's a small restaurant in a not particularly inviting strip mall, but once inside, it's cozy, the decor is attractive and clean and it has an extensive sushi menu. This is the level of selection and type of quality that we usually get on the Upper West Side in Manhattan. My only suggestion would be to expand the non-sushi entrees. Other than an assortment of teriyaki dishes, there wasn't much of a non-sushi choice. Also, it seemed like every one there was a regular. So people are clearly coming back. This might be the only good Japanese restaurant in Greene County.

Service was great as were the appetizers crab cakes, Vietnam salad, Brussels sprouts) and the cocktails. Entrees were just ok. The âhalf chickenâ was more like a capon. Very small, offset by too much rice and sautéed greens. The noodle dish was also disappointing. If I go back will just do apps. Portions are very large. Also, got put at a table right next to the door on a cold evening and was told no other tables available. Be sure to ask for the back room
