Zhenjiang, formerly romanized as Chenkiang, is a prefecture-level city in Jiangsu Province, China. It lies on the southern bank of the Yangtze River near its intersection with the Grand Canal. It is opposite Yangzhou (to its north) and between Nanjing (to its west) and Changzhou (to its east). Zhenjiang was formerly the provincial capital of Jiangsu and remains as an important transportation hub.

Visited at night and the lights are wonderful. So many little shops and restaurants and bars and beautiful walks. You even get a dose of history although at the time you don't realise it. Loved it!!!!

If you seeking for a peaceful and original old temple, this is the perfect for you. There are too many historical site got 'modernized' which are not necessary good. Behind this wonderful temple area , there was one of the most romantic love story in Chinese story. Jingshan temple is one of the oldest temple built about seven hundred years ago. The other Jiaoshan temple was rebuilt about 40 years ago. Both temples are about five miles apart. You could visit both areas within one day. There are three famous hill near by. Its a beautiful area to visit where you can let your imagination goes
and got a picture on how was like in the old days.

When the Qing Dynasty emperor, Qianglong, visited Zhenjiang in the late 18th century, he famously pronounced that he preferred Jiaoshan Hill to its more fancied Zhenjiang rival, Jinshan Hill. But having visited both, we are ready to side with the emperor: Jiaoshan Hill, actually an island floating in the Yangtze River, is more beautiful and relaxing. We recommend visiting both if you are in town, but you had to chose one or the other, chose Jiaoshan. "The floating jade" of this forested island is a welcome escape from the concrete jungles of Jiangsu.
The varied offerings include a 7-storey pagoda, a forest of stelae, a sweet osthmanthus garden, a former British fort from the days of the Opium War, and a weathered Buddhist temple with a sizable population of monks. All in all, any history buff should be able to spend a leisurely few hours enjoying these and other offerings.

I had been here seven years ago and while many sites and Neighborhoods in the area had improved, some dramatically, I was disappointed in the condition of this park. It was one of the highlights years ago, but now needs much maintenance. The tower was closed and many rooms throughout the park seemed to store random, unused furniture. The temple was still very impressive. I found it funny that I had to bargain with a vendor for a juice drink from a case because there were no prices listed and I knew what she was asking was twice what I should have been paying. This destination hasn't grown with the rest of the city.

The newly built museum is located on the site of the former British Consulate. Zhenjiang became a Treaty Port as of April 1861. Some of the buildings of the consulate are still under renovation and make a very homogeneous architectural complex, along with the new museum, all decorated with red and black bricks.
The museum houses interesting collections of bronze wares, porcelain or painting. Nice view on Zhenjiang from the Gardens.
Close to the museum, the site of the old embankment at the time the Yangtze River had not moved its bed to the south. In particular, do not miss the old street that start from the right of the museum and the strange stone pagoda dating from the Yuan dynasty, hanging above the street.
If you like walking, on the street that leaves from the left side of the museum, you will see some old buildings such as the Guild of merchants from Canton or the former Chamber of Commerce. Some of these buildings are now being refurbished.

Beigu is perhaps the least known or popular of the '3 mountains' in Zhenjiang (Jinshan, Jiaoshan and Beigu). Consequently it's not as touristy or crowded. In fact if you have enough knowledge about the Chinese culture (not just dubious folklores told by guides, but the history, the literature masterpieces), then you will sure find Beigu a treasure of historic and literature implications. It's a shame though, that the park is not attended to carefully enough. For example, some trees and shrubs grow so high that they block the entire view of several sight-seeing stands. Those places are where ancient emperors, generals or poets have been standing and watching the scenes. But now we can only see trees.

This mountain is beautiful. There are some trails you can walk and lots of stairs to take up to some pagodas. On a warm day, it's a great place to visit. There are areas for children to play and places where you can drink tea and relax. There is also a beautiful park to visit.

This park had changed since I had been there seven years ago. I remembered it being very open and not used by many people. I was happy to see it was now a destination for the locals. There were several folks in different areas of the park using a toy like contraption that looked like it took skill and required good balance and precision movements. There were others playing musical instruments under a tree canopy. There was an area where card games were being played by in groups and others were hanging out in hammocks. I've been to parks in China before and have appreciated seeing everyday life, but this was by far the most interesting. The park itself was average, but the people made it spectacular for foreign eyes.

Wanda Plaza is a large shopping mall near the center of town. Located across the street from the railway station, it is an easy location to get to and from. Taxis are readily available and there are plenty of restaurants in and outside of the mall. The third floor of the mall is almost entirely restaurants with a wide variety to choose from. There's an IMAX theater on the fourth floor. Across the street in several directions are more shopping malls.
Outside the mall are two restaurant streets. One of them features a small game and tea shop called Nim-Tea. They have very good drinks for as low as five RMB. They offer tables, card and board games for 15 RMB per person. However, if you get the table for 15 R&B, you get unlimited free drinks and snacks. This is a great place to hang out and rest after a day visiting the Mountains and temples.

Ganlu Temple is located on Beigu Mountain next to Beigushan Park. It is a very nice temple within a beautiful historic area where there are many things to see in addition to the temple.
