August 28, 2017 Vivienne Hutton

Vonyarcvashegy (Hungarian pronunciation: [ˈvoɲɒrt͡svɒʃhɛɟ]) is a town and tourist resort on the north shore of Lake Balaton, in western Hungary. The settlement was created when the former Vonyarc and Vashegy settlements were united in 1850. At that time, the inhabitants dealt primarily with viticulture and fishing. The later cultivated local bathing life was based upon the activity of a bathing association founded in 1930.

Lake Balaton

The biggest lake in the country and a traditional holiday spot. On the coastline you can find many activities, restaurants, cafes, museums for all ages. It is a shallow lake, mainly from the south side, but that makes it ideal if you are with young kids. It may not hold such great surprises for people who live near a sea, but nonetheless it is recommended to visit.

Overal: free entrance more or less. 500HUF for tower entrance was worth it. The building is huge and i didnt expect this in a city such as this. I definitelly recommend visiting this gem. The garden around and the pond are nice too.
All in all you wont spend more than 1 hour here.

One of the nicest place and view around the lake Balaton. Short walking distance from the village. Famous from the legend of the 40 fishermen.

An interesting castle hidden away in the town with large grounds, and outbuildings holding little museums in their own right.
There is a separate hunting, and Carriage museum as well as the castle.
If you are VERY lucky then a choir will be singing, their voices reaching through the castle rooms to add to your visiting experience.

Excellent service and cocktail bar.
There are always nice people at the bar. It was years I did not experience such good service in Hungary.
Ferenc the owner also gave us excellent recommendations for restaurants in the area. He speaks Italian, English and German, though he agrees to help me practice my magyarul.
Very good service in general as we stayed over a few nights.

The good people of Hévíz obviously like the colorful churches. After a green one, now I have seen a blue one. The modern church with seven towers is very impressive rather look like a Cathedral than a church of a little country town.
It's a new building, was erected in 1999 and consecrated in 2007
What that is mostly taking in the interior is the wooden cover of the ceiling, which lends some warm, cozy feeling to the church. These wooden panels are also providing an excellent acoustic, that make possible to perform Concerts in the church.

Dropped in to see the castle last Fri & it did not disappoint! The walk up is steep but well worth it. The castle totally dominates the entire area with views for miles in every direction, really giving a fantastic depiction of what it was like here many moons ago. Lots of history to read & absorb from the building of the castle to it's fall into disrepair. Worth a couple of hours of anyone's time.

Balatonbereny kozsegi strand

Reviewed By Geri301 - Casablanca, Morocco

Have recently been there with friends and children. The place is tidy and well maintained so suitable for children as well. The water is shallow as everywhere on the southern coast but the water is muddy and you'll find lot of seaweed which is disturbing. The swimming pool is small and full of people. There are several places to eat and/or drink but service level is usually poor with long waiting times, especially around lunchtime. You have the possibility to rent paddle boats and kayaks . Overall you can spend a nice day or afternoon there but do not expect much.

This delightful spot is approximately 10 minutes drive from my summer home in Hungary. It is well-named "Beautiful Panorama". From here you can enjoy views of the north shore of Lake Balaton which is dominated by old volcanic hills. I never tire of stopping here to enjoy what is truly a spectacular vista.
