Cathedral is breathtaking. The service at the gift shop was very good, she told us brief history and answered some of our questions. Overall, great experience.

Linkoping Cathedral

For almost 800 years people have been coming to worship and pray at Linköping Cathedral. Work on the Cathedral was started in 1230, with the main building works being completed in 1520. The belfry and the west façade were added in 1885. Linköping Cathedral is the most impressive and expensive Swedish church building of the Middle Ages. Within the church you can see evidence of almost 800 years in which master craftsmen have expressed their faith in wood and stone

Beautiful architecture and a most peaceful of places, where you can saunter around quietly admiring the wooden carvings...ceilings and magical floors. You have to be respectful here...and it's a gem of a place about where you would not expect to see it. Free to enter but please donate.

Masthuggskyrkan

Reviewed By 14rond - Stillwater, United States

Started in 1914, the church is located on a high hill which gives commanding views of Goteborg, especially Goteborg harbor. The church itself has an interior reminiscent of a Viking Stave church, with a beautifully timbered ceiling, and timbers which exhibit the work of skilled craftsmen.

Kiruna Kyrka

Reviewed By jrosenbergh - Tampere, Finland

Kiruna Church is a big and beautiful wooden church in the heart of the city. Build between 1909-1912 it's one of the biggest wooden buildings in Sweden. 2001 it was voted the most liked building in Sweden. The altarpiece is work of Prince Eugen Napoleon Nicolaus of Sweden and Norway, Duke of Närke. Definitely worth a visit.

Vasteras Cathedral

Reviewed By SonjaB9 - Stockholm, Sweden

This cathedral dates back to the eleven hundreds and has been added to during the centuries. A renovation in the middle of the 20th century brought forward many of the best features from the passed centuries and added some new as the different looking lamps on the columns as well as the pulpit made of ceramic. The “new” organ produces beautiful music and there is much to see like the epitaphs and the well known sarcophagus of Erik the 14th who was poisoned by his brother Johan. Poison in his pea soup it is claimed. The tower of the cathedral is a landmark and beautiful to look at because of its shape and proportions. Outside you can see a sculpture of bishop Rudbeckius who in 1623 started the first high school (“gymnasium” ) in Sweden. The present school is located next to the cathedral as is “Proban” (on the other side) which was the prison for pupils and teachers who were punished for drunkenness etc. Go and see it all!

Walked up to the church from the Ice hotel, very pretty covered in snow, warm and colourful inside, postcards to buy with an honesty box.
