Well worth the half hour trek up from Monchique to the summit of Foia. Great views all the way up through woodland and open spaces along well defined tracks. Great photo opportunities all the way! Passes a very nice restaurant too called Jardim D'Oliveras.

We obtained a walking map from the tourist office in Monchique and walked for two hours in 40%C to get to the top. Met no one on the way. Difficult ascent in the heat but well worth the effort, walking through oak tree Forests and tiny scattered hamlets. No cafe or shops at the top ( thank goodness) but wonderful views of both sides of the valley. Quite, peaceful and remote. Wonderful!

Wonderful little village in the middle of picturesque forested area. Nice cafes and relaxation areas and some traditional architecture too. On the other hand, hot Springs weren't that hot and the whole complex looks more like a hospital than a spa.Thank you for your rating Your opinion is very important to us! Best regards

Have knack off finding ok places that we have to ourselves. Only visitors when went (nearby forest fires putting others off we told). Worth visit. Nice house. Mirror maze fun. Chilled walk around the scrub and forest setting...

As you climb the steps that run through Monchique the church is near the first level just down the street from the statue of the young man. A relatively easy climb. The entrance is interesting with its sculptures of ropes. The inside is quite beautiful for a small church.

we were located in silves and had a private car and we arrived maybe after two hours in the sleepy village Monchique. before we stoped at the place which gave Monchique its name. "caldas de monchique"...a natural spa...with high class hotel...located hidden in a steep valley...is very nice, but maybe in 30 minutes the whole place was explored. Monchique itself is a small and very pittoresque village with tiny streets in old archtiecture. we moved up to a rotten castle and the Panorama view was sensationell. in 3 hours the village was seen. also interessting in this area is the highest mountain in this region called " foia". there is a mirador and during clear days its possible to overview the whole coastline of the Algarve, which is maybe 50 kilometers far from this place. because of our private car we had a perfect day in the backland of the Algarve without any sightseeing stress.

Monchique is a steep little village and the walk up from the town's unprepossessing square does take you through the most interesting and picturesque parts. The final section of the walk to the convent runs through quite pleasant woodlands and there are good views out over the valley. However, the convent is boarded up with a variety of 'keep out' signs in different languages - not welcoming at all, it is clearly privately owned. The state of the buildings is clearly very poor and the visit isn't worth the effort. The wandering minstrel was playing his guitar in a distracted way...but wasn't at all threatening!

When the current owners (an artist couple) bought the townhouse 6 months ago they left it much as they found it - a Monchique townhouse furnished in the simple Portuguese style, though now housing their interesting artistic creations. Ceramic stoneware sculptures adorn each room as if they belong - people/beasts hanging out the window, fish-sculptures ready to be eaten at the small dining table, a vase-ceramic at the writing desk. The ground floor is a shop where you can purchase some of the weird and wonderful creations. I love what they've done here - a quirky and creative artistic delight.

I went on vacation with friends to Monchique and found this amazing exhibition of ceramics! The artist is there showing his art and if you ask you can even visit the workshop. All the pieces are original! I was super existed to finally find exclusive art at a reasonable price in Algarve! Dont miss the garden! Will visit again for sure!
