We had read the reviews on Tripadvisor and were keen to pay this place a visit. It was a busy lunchtime when we called and we were seated immediately. Food was inexpensive and very tasty. Overall I would describe the place as very average and the premises could certainly do with a spruce up in terms of paint and decor.

Maghera Inn

Popped in with my wife and 9 year old daughter after a long walk in Tollymore Forest. Immediately made welcome and felt at home in this cosy pub. Very friendly staff and a great selection of traditional fare on the menu. Good kids menu and colouring materials provided. Seafood chowder was filling and creamy with generous portions. Would recommend the small portion. Mussels also very tasty. Lamb shank and beef ladder fell off the bone, well seasoned quality meat. Daughters lasagne well flavoured. Portion size for all meals generous. Good wine selection with recommendations on the menus to accompany each course. Great Deserts but was too full up to try. Reasonably priced at under £75 for family meal. I had passed this place many times on the road and always fancied calling in. It was well worth the visit and will definitely call back next time I’m in the area.

The Bucks Head Inn

Stopped in at the Bucks Head after a long walk along the beach at Murlough on a very cold but dry winters day. I've been popping in here for over the past 15 years when down walking the beach. It's always been a reliable wateringhole with excellent service. On this occasion we were a bit late in - around 2.30 - but were able to get a couple of bowls of soup to warm us up. Chowder for me and broth for my wife. Served with lovely freshly made breads. The soups were very tasty and the bread rolls and wheaten excellent. Service as usual was quick and efficient. It's a great place to stop at if you're in the area - it's a bit far away from us to be a local but always a good reason to go for a bracing walk by the sea!

Golf Links House Restaurant

We dined here recently and after Reading reviews expected a great experience... unfortunately was just ok. As we were staying overnight we went to restaurant in the afternoon and requested to book a particular table. On arrival at our booked time someone else was sitting there and I did say to the guy who greeted us who just said he didn't know about our booking and we had to pick another table, not a great start. We both went with the 3 course xmas menu sounded lovely. My meal was good but my other half who is diabetic not so great. He choose salmon and prawn starter, just about got a forkful of salmon and onions throughout the bit of salad served with it. He ordered beef done rare but instead received extremely well done beef.needless to say he did not eat it all, he asked for desert of just a wee bit of cheese, was told sorry only served grated cheese.... he was not given any further options. We did though receive a free coffee as way of apology but at this stage it really didn't matter as our experience had not been great. I will say though that the guys serving were lovely absolutely no reflection on them . Would we eat there again sorry but no, customer satisfaction is so important and on this occasion it did not work.

The smoked salmon and the pate starters were a sign of things to come - delicious flavour. My rib-eye was very good and my dining companion's monk fish was declared to be delicious. My onion rings were perfect too with a light crispybatter. Prosecco and red wine by the glass topped off the meal.
We would highly recommend and we hope to return.

Hugh McCann's

Hugh McCann’s is family business that has been on the go for almost 40 years, the building is around 200 years old and has been sympathetically restored to preserve old world charm, yet with all modern comforts and fabulous design taking advantage of the stunning situation. The building nestles between the Mountains and the sea. The restaurant looks onto the Promenade and out to sea, the bar area, beer garden and wedding function room have views of the Mourne Mountains. The Bedrooms have either sea or mountain views. Ample parking for coaches is available nearby. Conference facilities include breathtaking 'breakout' areas, and fabulous opportunities for team building activities such as a walk in the hills or volunteering at a local national nature reserve.

Great menu for all tastes of on the go people seeking a fairly quick snack or lunch. Very pleasant and capable staff. Top/ups offered and you are made to feel most welcome. One small thing the management should watch for is people heading straight to take seats before ordering and paying for food. Annoying when you can’t get a table because someone behind you is occupying it

Went in the Anchor a few times while staying in Newcastle for the week and have to say it was one of my favourites in the area. Had a lovely real ale on as well as a really good selection of Irish Whiskeys. The bar staff were very friendly and the pub is quite large inside. They have a lounge as well as a pool table area at the back and a lovely little beer garden out the back which we were lucky to be able to sit in as the weather was quite kind to us.
