Jutland Memorial Park

Reviewed By Robert C - Copenhagen, Denmark

This very significant site of reconciliation is unique in the world, in that it commemorates the dead of two World War One navies, the British Royal Navy Grand Fleet and the Imperial German High Seas Fleet at the Battle of Jutland. Unusually there are no winners or losers in this memorial park where the design seeks to explain in a neutral fashion the terrible scale of the losses. 25 ships out of 251 were sunk with 8,645 men on both sides lost in the space of just 12 hours, 31st May to 1st June 1916. The park occupies a large area of attractive coast, roughly about three football pitches in area with 26 named granite stones each up to 3½ metres high numbering the losses from each ship. The ghostly figures surrounding each stone represent each life lost, no uniform or colour to distract the view. Highly recommended for a contemplation visit. The Battle of Jutland Memorial Park is open 24 hours every day and is free to enter.

Sea War Museum Jutland

Reviewed By mightyshepherd - London

This museum is a labour of love curated and built by Danish diver and historian, Gert Norman Andersen. It was Andersen who discovered the wreck of U-20, the submarine that sunk the RMS Lusitania in May 1915. As owner of a large subsea contracting business, Andersen has been able to finance numerous expeditions to the Battle of Jutland wreck sites and has amassed a unique collection of artifacts which are now displayed in the museum’s large timber sheds. Whether you're a WW1 buff or just happen to be in the area, this museum is well worth a visit.

Jyllandsakvariet

At JyllandsAkvariet you get to watch, sense, and experience a wide variety of the many kinds of fish that live in the North Sea and Limfjorden. Tickle a crab and pet a shark on its head; in our touch pools, you get up close to the fish and are welcome to give a hand feeding sharks, rays, and flatfish. Play in our kiddy u-boat, find amber at our indoor beach with free find-it-yourself amber. Go on seal safari with our glass-bottom-boat, you get really close to the seals. The tractor bus drives 2,4 km into Limfjorden where we look at the life in the shallow water and help find small animals for the aquarium. If the seals are close enough, we use our binoculars watching them resting on the sand banks. Amber safari with all year round amber guarantee: learn how, where, and when to find amber on the beach. Let your dog relax in our new dog lounge, while you are on seal safari or nature safari. Open all year round – activities throughout the year.

It's rather small, so it seems quite expensive for its price. Nevertheless, there is a lot of useful and interesting information about the fishes and many possibilities to touch some of them. If you want to participate in the seal safari it's better to arrange it in advance, but there are often extra tours, information about them is at the ticket office.

Not verry interesting, the kids liked some of the activities but it was not interesting. Do not drive to long to see this. The wind is always around and makes the place a cold place to be even in the middle of July. If you visit bring with you good clothes.

If you are planning a visit to Thyboron from North Jutland I suggest to travel as a pedestrian, it's cheaper and you don't have to wait in a queue for the next ferry. And when I travelled they didn't really depart according to the schedule.

I heard from this store from a friend and i figured it would be a day filling activity.
The store is family-run and a very nice elderly lady sits behind the counter.
Of course you can pay the shop a visit for the hundreds of different shaped and sometimes really interesting and or colourful looking lovely designed candles.
But the real attraction waits behind a door in the back of the shop.
At the counter there are many things you can choose from in the DIY kind of branch. First off there is the traditional candle dipping where you put a wick into wax and pull it out again and you wait until it has hardened. You can choose the wicks from two different lenghts.
The finished candle has to be paid by gram so you pay for what you get.
You can also do casted candles where you cut colored wax in little pieces and put those pieces in a cast of plastic. Transparent wax is then poured over the pieces.
Also you can decorate little 'cupcakes'. This is probably the ideal activity for kids!
You should calculate some time when you choose to dip candles:
The candle dipping took about 2 hours with a long wick.
I also made a casted pyramid shaped candle which took about 30 minutes.
I paid about 50 DKK for a casted (20 DKK) and a dipped candle.
I do not know if you can bring your dog.
It is definitely worth the money and time!

This is a beautifulrestaured church. From everywhere in the church you can see the pulpit. You can even find a clean and handy toilet just behind the front door.
