Sevel Kro

Reviewed By Carol I - Bristol, United Kingdom

I discovered this Kro (traditional Inn) by chance 4 months ago with a work colleague, so persuaded my husband to try it. The Kro is conveniently located for Hjerl Hede, the open air museum, and for walking around Stubbergård and Flyndersø lakes. It has a few different rooms that can be used for groups, small and large. The Kro offers traditional Danish food, freshly made: I had stjerneskud (very traditional fish dish) but the rødspætte (plaice) had not just come out of the deep freezer already breaded, it was freshly done with a home-made, light coating. My husband had the lunch platter with lovely pork and other delights including 2 unusual cheeses with caramelised figs. There was beer from Fur brewery. The only negative point was the price; 75 kr for a bottle of beer and 50kr for a tiny glass of white wine, and 505kr for 2 mains, drinks and coffee. However, we intend to go back again with a group next month.

Restaurant Under Klippen

Reviewed By Tomad50 - Holstebro, Denmark

Under Klippen is an excellent restaurant where the Chef, Ismayel, works magic in the kitchen. The attention to detail is fantastic, and both the quality and the presentation of the food is beyond anything you expect to find outside the major cities. The knowledge of the staff, in particular the Restaurant Manager Kewin, is equally fantastic, and you will always feel very velcome. Despite the quality prizes are not too scary. If you like ambience, great food and service, Under Klippen is well worth a visit. It is certainly our favourite restaurant and we go there as often as possible.
And - by the way - the disco mentioned in a previous review has closed and has been replaced by a less noisy establishment.

If you want a so called pizza, by all means go. No italian would call what they serve pizza, but you get value for money, if you value loads of meat and plenty of slob (sauces) on your pizza. Normal pizza place prices (ie reasonable for food expensive for drinks) servers are students and a grumpy boss.
All right for the money

Three friends and I had lunch at this place. It's quite simple and nice inside, not much atmosphere, and the menu is slightly more adventurous than your average Danish cafe, most of which have identical menus.
However, the two soups which my friends ordered were incredibly salty to the point of being inedible, which was a shame. My Sandwich was very good, but way too much food for one person.
It's certainly one of the better places in Holstebro to eat but steer clear of the soup!

Although definitely one of the best places (one of the few places) to get really good food in Holstebro, there were just a few little problems, the kind which you would not find in a restaurant where everything is effortless.
Firstly, dining solo is always tricky and I was first put in the corner (of an empty restaurant) and had to ask to move to a different table. Then a huge bread basket came, with just two desultory little bits of bread in them - that certainly hasn't been thought through, and I doubt the bread was made in the restaurant. The glass of wine was fine but again a stingy and ungenerous serve.
The main course of quail with risotto was delicious, but one of the main ingredients - mushrooms - was not listed on the menu, which is a problem if you don't like or are allergic to mushrooms. Plus the risotto was *inside* the quail; an interesting way of serving it, but the portion was on the small side. And at 228kr for a main course, that's a bit of a joke.
The highlight of the evening was a terrific chocolate dessert - that alone was worth the visit.

The selection is chancing each day. We also chance lunch dishes according to season and we make both traditional cafe´dishes such as burgers and more local and innovative dishes. quality and ecology are keywords. We also make bread and cakes without gluten or lactose and lunch dishes can be changed to suit this.

The food was average, but the place lost a point by the service. It is a strange experience to in a café where the waitress is annoyed by your questions and request. It might not be the best place for lunch, but the cakes and cookies looked very good. However, we did not order that because I didn’t want to annoy the waitress once again by asking for coffee.

A great place to eat american food. Typical american diner actually. You can get burgers mainly. Danish food is delicious, but if you want something a bit different, this is the place to go. The prices are reasonable and the service is good. Food tends to take a bit to prepare, especially when there are many customers, but it's worth the wait.
