Jiaxing South Lake

Reviewed By ConwenChang - Castlegar, Canada

This is a little lake with a little boat, a little building with a little of communist party history. Nothing much fancy. I went there a lot as a child, just because it is a historical site for the first Chinese communist party's national meeting. It used to be better since the water quality were, now, just not worth too much. However, Jiaxing the city is an interesting medium size economic blooming place.

Last October 2012, I had visited this place only at night.(Morning need to attend training). It is very windy and nice lighting in East lake of Ping Hu.(China , Zhe Jiang, Jia Xing). You can see many people dance at night. I think this is their culture. It a quite place as it is not in big city.

Jiaxing Xitang Wine Museum

Reviewed By ClaudiusSg - Singapore, Singapore

The museum contained little more than old pots and urns, rather than showing anything about the history of Chinese rice wine or the processes to do so, other than one drawing.
The entry is included in the Xitang water town visit thus it is worth a look, but I felt disappointed.

Yuehe Street

Reviewed By Traveller_Steve_Ling - Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom

The old street was the first place that i saw when i arrived in Jiaxing with my partner after a long drive from Shanghai. Our friends took us to a popular restaurant that was open at lunchtime and i just immediately fell in love with this type of architecture.
It is when you see architecture like this, in a land like China that it is important to us and to tell us that we must cherish how our ancestors used to live hundreds of years ago. It is also kind of romantic to want to live this much simpler life then what we have today.
It also reminds me of the shophouses that I adore around the Tanjong Pager area of Singapore.
During the day some of the houses are open as shops. At night they become alive as restaurants and again more shops. Trying to find a parking space around there is quite difficult at times.
Cannot recommend Yuehe Street enough to be on your schedule when in Jiaxing.

Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Hall

Reviewed By Ken H - Vancouver, Canada

A wonderful three story museum but a bit heavy on Chinese only text. The museum was also bitterly cold in winter. However, the English audio was great (if again somewhat more detail than needed). Videos were also Chinese only. Not being negative here as one should go and it is enlightening but it is not geared to English-language tourists as much as it could be.
