Appalling - Hostel at eye watering rates

Reviewed By GoMoUk

We were unfortunately travelling through the Vosges and after a search were told by the Tourist Information in Cornimont that this place was the only place available. I was told that a room for two adults and an infant would be 170 Euros which was fairly breathtaking, as it clearly wasn't going to be an internationally renowned hotel. But they said Dinner and Breakfast was included, so gritted my teeth. This place is at the very best a low cost hostel. In the entrance various building materials greet your eyes whilst the over powering smell of dogs and, God knows what animals, assault your nostrils. The room to be fair is clean if totally basic. No furniture apart from a couple of beds and a small TV. Entertainment comes from listening to absolutely everything your neighbours do. The walls are paper thin and we were treated all night long to every type of human ablution. The beds are the sort of cheap beds that has been destroyed by relentless abuse and the mattresses gave the most uncomfortable nights sleep since I injured my back - but might have been more uncomfortable. Then given that there was absolutely no comfort in the room, we went for our Dinner. The soup was alright. The main course was disgusting. I will eat anything and it was appalling. It was a mound of cabbage covered in vinegar, with the cheapest meat and sausages liberally tossed over it. I can't even explain how bad it was. Then the cheese course came. The waitress made a great deal of what cheese we wanted. Eventually said she would bring a selection. When it came out even the table next to us gasped. She literally had brought out three paper plates each with a piece of cheese marginally bigger than a sugar cube to eat. That was the final straw and we just went upstairs to get away from the smell of the dogs. In the morning we wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. Having been told that Breakfast was served at 7am it turned out they couldn't be bothered to open it until 8am. I presume they were assuming if they open later all the skiiers who need to leave early wouldn't have a chance to eat the pawltry breakfast - and hence they'd save more money. Anyway, if you are ever unfortunate enough to be in my position and this is the ONLY option available. Drive to Munster, Epinal, Colmar or anywhere rather than give these people 170 of your hard earnt. I have no problem with people earning a living or providing a level of accommodation to meet a budget, but to charge that amount of money for a place that is so clearly sub-standard was just greedy.

Le Faing Du Bray

In a former farm located in the Vosges’s countryside. 5 large freshly renovated rooms (bathroom with private toilets and walk-in shower or bath, 47'' TV , underfloor heating, wifi). 1 room specially designed for handicapped guests. Large common room, relaxation area with games and library. Private parking, garage for bicycles/motorcycles. Enclosed and quiet garden.

Really superb contemporary renovation of a historic farm

Reviewed By jan24jan24

This has to be one of the very best places we stayed in out of our whole month touring France. The combination of a minimalist modern aesthetic with the beautiful old farm building works exceptionally well. And the quality of the welcome, the beds and the breakfast were just as good. We were served complimentary drinks on arrival and again the next day before we left. There is a really lovely large room downstairs where guests can sit on sofas, at tables, or make use of the open plan kitchen, which is also where breakfast is served in the mornings. Breakfast was absolutely superb: lots of local and home-made produce. We especially appreciated the trio of fromages blancs (sheep's, goat's and cow's) with home-made jams. And the home-made crumble especially made gluten free for my partner.

Great B&B, friendly staff

Reviewed By JoAnTG

We stayed at this B&B while passing through Gerardmer on our road trip. We stayed in room no 1. Spacious room and nice and clean bathroom. The room had a patio with a lounge set. We would've preferred it there was a partition between the patio's of the other rooms. Now you have no privacy if you want to sit outside of your room. About 10 minutes walk to the city centre of Gerardmer. Nice breakfast with fresh fruit, bread and a lot of choices.

La Ferme de Marion

In an authentic village in the heart of the forest from the Vosges, Marie and Yalon welcome you in their former farm with its four rooms full of charm. A barn of 250 m2 was completely renewed with its big fireplace where to relax. Situated in a case of greenery at the edge of a small pond, Marion's farm also have a swimming pool and a tennis. The meals at the hosts' table with quality products (organic vegetables ) will make you spend a friendly moment.

A lovely location for relaxing holidays

Reviewed By azi83

We spent a night there with our 9-month-old as a stopover during a long trip south, and I wish we had been able to stay longer as it was such a lovely, relaxing, welcoming place. Marie is the perfect hostess, she was kind and cheerful and made us feel right at home. We were lucky enough that the weather was great and we could have breakfast outside on the little patio in the garden. The breakfast itself was just what we one needs, handmade confitures and jams, baguette, croissants, egg, cereals..and a warm smile! Definitely recommended for a longer stay, to go for walks/bike tours/yoga (next door!) and for a general restful holiday!

Fantastic views if you get the right room!

Reviewed By Gilly W

Fantastic place perched high up in the mountains overlooking Bussang. The new owners speak very little English, but we’re very helpful and polite. However, I believe we were given the worse room of the place. We couldn’t believe it when he walked us round to the side of the property next to a bombed out old extension and remains of a burnt out fire. We booked a double room and walked into a lounge area with bunk beds and a wardrobe. Thankfully there was a double bedroom and everything was spotlessly clean, if not rather basic. Their saving grace was the amazing views from the veranda bar area and dinner that night. Absolutely fantastic, as was breakfast the following morning. So I would recommend it, but make sure you get one of the front facing rooms with veranda.

Never judge a hotel by its exterior appearance

Reviewed By RogerRoo1

This hotel proved to be surprisingly comfortable and exactly just what we needed after having driven on the road for over 7 hours. It is located right in the heart of a little village complete with a gorgeous church to match. There is nothing commercial about this hotel and you are rewarded with old fashioned hospitality at its best. The rooms may be very dated but the bed was one of the best I have ever slept in. The bathroom was large and well stocked. We decided to have dinner at the hotel and we enjoyed a very good tasty meal. Since we were eager to carry on the journey southwards to Cers we could only stay for a cup of coffee the next morning.
