Utah Lodges | Places to Stay in Utah

April 19, 2023 Frederic Celentano

Welcome to “The Greatest Snow on Earth” – Utah’s paradise for all outdoor enthusiasts! As host of the 2002 Winter Olympics, Park City knows how to entertain winter fun seekers. Snowboarders and skiers head for miles of spectacular slopes with deep fluffy powder and breathtaking mountain views. The Olympic Park provides family-friendly ski programs, rides and shows. Alta, Sundance, Snowbird and Brighton are other popular destinations for cross country and Alpine skiers. Those alluring snowy slopes turn to rolling wildflower fields in the summer. Golfing, fishing, horseback riding and water sports replace chilly outdoor sports adventures. Corral the family, pack a picnic and catch one of the ski lifts for an afternoon of hiking or mountain biking along scenic trails. Head to Salt Lake City, where Temple Square hosts millions of visitors a year. Bryce Canyon and Arches National Park are famous for surreal landscapes from horseshoe-shaped amphitheaters to unusual rock formations and hundreds of natural sandstone arches. Closer to home, wander along the quaint main streets of mountain villages to browse, shop and enjoy lunch at an outdoor café. At the end of the day, head home for an outdoor barbecue and an evening of games. Home rentals blend privacy, space and comfort with the cost-saving advantage of eating some meals at home.

Our room at Beaver Creek was clean and offered what we needed. The view is beautiful. The lodge is in a remote area so plan meals in advance. We agree with another reviewer about breakfast. No one told us breakfast was offered or where to go. We found the room AFTER breakfast hours and were pretty upset. We booked a horseback riding trip and it was AWESOME!! Five starts for our horses and our guide!

The room was clean & comfortable. We stayed 3 nights & like all the hotels we stayed in this trip, maid service was only done after 3 nights. This is to minimize the hotel's effect on the climate. You can request fresh towels, bedding at any time. The car park is free & large, with several chain restaurants in walking distance.

What a Gem!

We spent 3 nights here and used it as a "central base" to visit several parks in the area and it worked out great! We couldn't utilize the fire circle due to the dry conditions...so we sat around the unlit circle after dark and looked at the stars. We saw deer wandering around...and cows. The directions to find the unit were excellent, as was all communication with the renters. The cabin was clean and very nicely done. We only had 3 people so there was ample room. Our best guess is that it would hole a LOT of family members. You just can't go wrong if you decide to stay here!

Over-sold and Under- delivered

Absolutely the worse rental ever. We couldn’t think of one positive thing to write for this review. We then walked to town and said, “Okay, we love the location….that’s it! That’s the one good thing we can say.” To say the unit accommodates 8 is a joke. Out of 4 beds, only 1 was somewhat comfortable. The pull-out sofa is ridiculous. Only 5 people can sit in the living room. Lounging is not at all comfortable. “Gourmet kitchen” is a laugh…it is so small that only 1 person can work in the space at a time. Coffee pot had to be taken apart and cleaned to get it to work. No wine/bottle opener, only dishes/cups/mugs for 4 people. If you plan on cooking…bring everything you need to cook. There is no heat except in space heaters. To reach anyone for help is impossible. Please read other reviews and don’t book until these folks learn that they need to accommodate their guests.

The Lodge At Red River Ranch

The Navajo call it the Land of the Sleeping Rainbow - a strange, beautiful landscape of multi-hued rock layers. Capitol Reef lies in the heart of Utah's canyon country halfway between Canyonlands and Bryce Canyon National parks. Here in this rugged natural wonderland are 2,200 private acres of pristine wilderness called Red River Ranch. Tucked away in the shadows of towering rock cliffs you'll find the Lodge, named one of the West's 25 Grandest Lodges. The Lodge has 15 rustic rooms in the authentic tradition of the 18th Century Wild West. Enjoy fly fishing, hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, guest pastures , hunting and more...

Excellent service, rooms and setting

Reviewed By Christy1

The lodge couldn't be better. The setting is gorgeous and the rooms very comfortable, with lots of charm. I loved my horse-themed Rodeo Room. The common room, with its big fireplace, books and magazines, is so nice. I used their hiking guidebooks to plan my days. This is so much nicer than the generic looking motels in and around Torrey. I stayed 2 nights and would loved to have stayed more. I had 4G service and there is wifi, too. The service is top notch. The manager anticipates ways to make your stay better that you didn't even think of, which is the hallmark of great service. At checkout, after hearing I was heading back to the park then to the airport, she suggested I come back to the lodge to change and freshen up rather than try to do this in the airport bathroom. When she saw me eating my take out with plastic utensils in front of the fire, she brought me real silverware and then stored my leftovers in the fridge (and warmed them up for me the next day!). As for food, breakfast was good, and less than 5 minutes east is a bbq place run by a Culinary Institute grad--they have vegetarian options, and portions are huge. The other highlight was the Capitol Burger truck (they have veg options too) run by a chef who used to work in Michelin starred restaurants. Torrey is only about 5-7 minutes away. The lodge has a binder of restaurant menus. I enjoyed staying on the first floor, as it was nice to be able to walk out my patio doors to look at stars or the scenery. Some have noted there is some noise. In general I don't think there is more noise than at your average motel, where you might have kids running up and down the halls or loud conversations outside your room door. I had the Rodeo Room, closest to the front door and common room, and in general the sounds of people coming and going were not bothersome. If there is a group hanging out in the lobby, you probably will hear them to some degree (or at least hear the men who don't modulate their voices), but luckily there seemed to be a 10 pm quiet time enforced. And I think this would likely only be something you'd hear from the Rodeo or Saratoga Rooms. The other 2 ground floor rooms were set further back from the common room. In general most people were respectful and quiet. The walls between rooms must have been thick--I never heard my neighbors.

Base Camp Adventure Lodge

17 miles west of Moab on Colorado River. Don't need four wheel drive but should have some ground clearance to get here. Seven bedrooms in lodge, $135 a night, two night minimum. Two 2 bedroom houses $370 per night, two night minimum. Two sweet Navajo hogans, $135 per night, two night minimum. Also have camping. $5 per night, per person. Have three side by sides you may use, six kayaks, lot of hiking, climbing, fossils, dinosaur tracks, wicked disc golf course, lots and lots, I probably can't say lots enough times to describe how many wild critters live here. Most of the time a beach, except during snow melt, incredible views and stunning night skies. A few miles from Dead Horse Point, in between Arches and Canyonlands, not far from Bears Ears, without the crowds. I've lived here ten years plus and not a day goes by I don't wake up and be incredibly thankful for where I live. Worry about other parts of your trip, but not this one, I'll take good care of you.

Perfect combination of isolation, comfort, and beauty!

Reviewed By LatkaSanDiego

We come to Moab twice a year for mountain-biking, hiking, and solitude. Usually we have to make the trade-off: peace and solitude or a comfortable hotel, but Basecamp has it all. Tom's "condo" is really a beautiful two-bedroom house with spectacular views of red rocks, buttes, and the Colorado River just a few steps away. The house itself is incredibly comfortable with lots of couches, a full kitchen, hot water, and a cozy gas fireplace. Outside are beautiful patios all around the house with tons of lounge furniture, even an old-fashioned porch swing. We were there mid-week in early November and it was soooooo quiet. The evening feeding was a treat--many foxes and racoons. Getting up close and personal with a 200 pound tortoise was also incredible! Tom and Colin welcomed us (and our dog) very warmly, gave us very explicit instructions to find some awesome hikes, and shared some fascinating stories of life at basecamp. And we couldn't believe this wild, remote place was still connected to the world by wifi--which let us work from paradise! The road getting there is tough so be sure you have high clearance or a skilled driver (both is ideal). We made the drive in the dark with a Nissan Rogue, though, so that tells you that most vehicles will make it with perseverance. We will be back--thanks Tom and Colin for a wonderful visit!
