The guacamole here is to die for! You get tons of food so if you're a light eater, better share with someone else. The food was very good. The service is good. Margaritas are huge!

The dining area isn't anything special, but it is a comfortable space. Lots of room. The menu has a good balance between authentic and Tex-Mex. I ordered their Suiza burrito with lengua. The lengua was perfectly cooked and had that hearty beefy flavor that is pot roast like. The burrito was massive and chalked full with lots of goodies. The chips and chunky pico/salsa were awesome. The pico/salsa is fresh and packs some heat from the fresh chilies. Service was fine, nothing special. It isn't my favorite Mexican restaurant in the QC, but it is pretty darn good.

We were looking for a place to have lunch and sit outside to enjoy the beautiful day. The food and service were outstanding. I had taco salad and asked for carnitas instead of beef or chicken. Among the best carnitas ever. My husband had shrimp tostadas - also great. We loved the salsa and ate far too much of it!

I agree that you can't strictly call this Mexican food. Perhaps Mexican inspired is a better definition. Either way its cheap and tasty and is one of the foods that I crave when I return to the QC area.Generally speaking this branch of the restaurant is not flash by any means...its been around for years and it looks like it as well. The staff are friendly and helpful and service on orders is usually rather quick.I personally like the food but if you're after the true mexican food experience I would agree with the other reviewers that there is more authentic options available. If however you want some decent "american mexican" food then it fits the purpose.

I used to go here regularly for lunch and occasionally for dinner. The food is mid/high priced but is served quickly (normally) and decent value. I usually order fajitas with corn tortillas as a gluten free option but there are quite a few other choices that work well if you make sure of your tortillas. The salsa and guacamole can be hit or miss (I'm not sure if they make it or change vendors) but when it is good it is very, very good. The wait staff for lunch usually is more on the ball than the evening staff and they usually have specials that can make for a good pricing. I don't go as often as I am not in that area as much any more but try it out when I am.

I used to eat here about every two or three weeks until Cactus opened which is now my favorite. Roy's is a local place that serves decent Mexican food. I like the taco salad.The atmosphere is not great, but the food is decent. It's not open on Sunday.

My husband and myself visited The Cactus Mexican Restaurant,just because we had never tried it before. The food was very good,but we didn't think it was anything,that Wow-ed us! The Rudy's Taco House,is across the street,which has about similar food, also. The Cactus,is not too pricey,compared to others. We probably will choose this restaurant again,just to give our taste buds a change.

First time at this Rudy's. Small combo was the special. Tasted great and the server was outstanding. Friendly, personable. I like the location in Waterloo but this one has it beat. I'll be back when traveling through the Quad Cities.
