Guest rooms received updates in 2018 including paint, wallpaper, drapes, headboards, bedding and decorative pillow shams that are laundered after every guest. The common areas were refreshed in 2020; our Lobby boasts new carpeting and soft furnishings. As an alternative, we also offer an adjacent guest house with four traditionally appointed bedrooms. Built in 1807 and named for local nature artist Fidelia Bridges, the structure is a fine example of Federal-period architecture featuring wide pine floors, low ceilings and historic detail. Rooms at the guest house are recommended for one to two travelers and are not handicapped accessible. Due to the unique configuration of all of our guest rooms, we do suggest speaking with a member of our Front Desk team to ensure you are booking the most appropriate room type for your needs.

A Great Hotel But Far Too Cold in our Room

Reviewed By Kaye L

We would have loved to give The Hawthorne five stars but, alas, we cannot. The staff was very helpful, the room was very large, and the location was perfect, however, it was so cold in our room the entire four days we were there that we actually left the hotel to find places to warm up! It stayed at 68 or 69 degrees fahrenheit the entire time. That is far too cold for southerners. When we asked about the lack of heat for the external temperature (50's and 60's during the day), they said that it was an historic hotel and did not offer individual room temperature controls for the heating/air conditioning system. Being from Charleston, SC, we are well aware of the limitations of historic hotels. That was not a limitation due to being historic, that was a limitation due to not updating the hotel. Other than having to wear our coats inside our room, we loved the hotel. The lobby was incredible. Our room was very spacious. Our bathroom was tiny and the shower was lilliputian but that added to the charm of an historic hotel. We will be back when they update their heating/air system and join the twenty-first century. Until then, we will find a different hotel in Salem.

I could not have asked for more and totally enjoyed my 5 night stay. Great location. Walking distance to everything. Quiet and safe. Tons of history. Staff goes above and beyond. Special mention of a more than attentive young lady at the desk named “Cris,” who took care of my every need. Definitely will be back.

Our stay at the Merchant was incredible! The staff were amazing and very gracious in communication prior to arrival, and it was so lovely to have the kitchen area for coffee, water, etc. We also took advantage of the tour they arranged, which was also excellent. We’ll definitely be back, this place is THE BEST ❤️

Great location in Salem

Reviewed By T6418MLscottm

We stayed for 3 nights in the Curwen House. It was quiet, spacious room, and plenty of parking. The breakfast arrangement was annoying. You had to text your order the night before and that info was relayed to the kitchen, which left lots of room for errors. We still had to tell them again everything we had already ordered when we arrived at the breakfast room.

Built in 1667, the centrally-located Daniels House is the oldest Bed and Breakfast in Salem, MA. Stepping inside the property, one is immediately transported back in time; there are open hearth fireplaces and exposed beams, and cross-stitch samplers and oil-painted portraits adorn the wood-paneled walls. Children and babies are welcome!

Amazing B&B to stay in Salem, MA

If you are looking for a place to stay other than a regular hotel and want to experience and feel like you are living in the past colonial days this is your spot. We stayed for 2 nights in the great room. The room was clean and soothing. The king size bed was amazing and so comfortable it just hugs you like a pillow. There was coffee and muffins downstairs in the dinning area in the mornings, we also received vouchers to Red’s. The home is located extremely close to all historical areas in Salem. Easy walking distance to all. I loved the area – streets and homes. Wonderful experience. I hope to book again in the future. Shout out to Vijay, he was very sweet with welcoming us on our arrival day and showing us the common areas we had access to. Thank you.

We Love The Hotel Salem!!

Reviewed By B2661RZjulieb

We recently stayed at the hotel Salem for our 5 year anniversary. When we checked in the staff could not have made us feel more welcome. We went up to the Roof for appetizers and got the lobster quesadilla and Mexican street corn dip, loved both! The manager Brian came to check on us and could not have been nicer. Between the amazing staff, beautiful hotel and restaurant we could not be happier on our overall experience. We stay here at least once a year and we have the same consistent welcome feel time and time again. Looking forward to visiting again - We LOVE the Hotel Salem!

Horrendous staff

Reviewed By P5623UPlisas

My friend and I stayed at the Clipper Ship Inn for 3 nights in late May. The hotel is average, the rooms are large but very dated. The hotel is roughly 25 mins walk away from the town cente but close to a restaurant and liquor store. Free parking is handy. Any positives about this establishment are diminished by the appalling attitude of Sue who I assume is the manager. She was rude from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. She accused us of stealing towels and almost kept our deposit hostage, she refused to let me borrow a bottle opener and instead told me to walk to the liquor store in the middle of a storm, she charged us 25 dollars to check in late!!! She also asked a veteran who was staying in the same block what mental issues he had because he asked to use the fridge. In summary, if you want a nice vacation without any drama don't stay here.
