Spread between the traditional building and the outbuilding, La Sauldraie, family friendly offers 2 family accomodations (4/5 persons), 2 junior suite (for 3 persons), 3 rooms on the ground floor. La sauldraie provides a cooked buffet breakfast. Traditional restaurant run by "Chef Benoit" which will showcase good seasonally inspired dishes, with priority to source the best produts, enhanced by an by an extensive choice of regional fine wines. Free off road private parking is available.

Reviewed By dizzylizzie378This was our third stay at the hotel. Rooms clean and spacious. Host always pleasant and welcoming. Food excellent. Plenty of choice for evening meal and breakfast. Reasonably priced accommodation. Rebooked our return overnight stay in July. Cannot fault this hotel/restaurant. Recommend this hotel.

Tiny rooms, overpriced hotel and expensive breakfast.
Reviewed By smithson90Tiny rooms, tired hotel, not suitable for a family. Very expensive for what you get. We booked a family room for us plus two babies and it was a small double with a sofa bed squeezed in. Very basic bathroom very ‘holiday inn’ and with attic ceilings so you bumped your head and it made the space even smaller. On the plus side the location is very handy for the highway yet there’s no traffic noise. The staff are friendly which made the experience bearable. The restaurant was nice and moderately priced. Breakfast was wildly expensive, €32 for two people for a croissant and a machine coffee. I would absolutely pick somewhere else next time. One night stay with a basic dinner for two cost over €300. Very overpriced for the facilities.

Reviewed By Bert75013I booked two "standard" rooms (for myself and a colleague at work) 3 months in advance for our 2 working days and Nenufar ceremony at Nançay Observatory. We arrived late and left early so we did not have much time to appreciate the premises which looked nice, nor the restaurant. The staff was definitely friendly and efficient. The rooms were at the top floor, quite small and basic but okay for just one night. For example, it was hardly possible to work with a laptop. A courtesy tray would also have been a very welcome addition. I give 4 * to account for the economic rate selection et the friendly welcome. I think there are larger & more comfortable rooms available ("comfort") which I would recommend for a longer stay.

NEXT TO A NOISY ROAD
Reviewed By 19jane49This was a stopover at the end of our holiday and from the image of hotel I paid extra for a balcony and had imagined after a 350 mile drive relaxing on the balcony with a gin and tonic. The hotel is next to a very noisy road which kept us awake for most of the night. I even requested a quiet room and the proprietor should have advised. One of the most disappointing stays.

Montboulan is located in the middle of the wood, along a river. La Palette is a suite of two rooms the Blue one and the Pink. It welcome you with your family or friends. On the highest floor of the house, Léon Belly's room is perfect for a loving night.

Reviewed By LutonSueThis amazing house is located at the end of a 3 kilometre drive along an unmade road in stunning surroundings. We received a warm welcome from our host and were shown to our room which was beautiful and very comfortable. Fitting ensuite shower rooms into a 150 year old property is a challenge, so the shower was rather bijou, but it was adequate. By contract our separate toilet was very spacious! We opted to eat in and had a lovely and plentiful meal in the pleasant company of four other guests. Breakfast was of a similar standard.

Reviewed By whiteley69We easily found this delightful house on the bank of the river and received a warm welcome from the owner. Our bedroom turned out to be a suite of rooms all very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was ready for us in the little dining area and was perfect. Parking is free and secure but do remember to turn left out of the gates as the road is one-way ! All in all a great place to stop and we are pleased we did.

Belles chambres, confortables et agrémentées de superbes tableaux pour les amateurs d'art, avec une literie qui mérite d'être soulignée (cela faisait bien longtemps que je n'avais pas si bien dormi !!), salle d'eau moderne refaite visiblement à neuf récemment. Deux hôtes des plus accueillants : Olivier (douceur, gentillesse et attentions) et Denis (une culture des plus impressionnantes et toujours le sourire aux lèvres). Excellent petit déjeuner, entièrement fait maison par Olivier : pain, yaourt, confitures, et du thé spécialement sélectionné par Denis qui varie tous les matins (Mariage Frères etc...) La cerise sur le gâteau : les massages de Denis et sa formation en naturopathie !!

Reviewed By SalC123My partner and I had a lovely meal and were made to feel very welcome even though we could only speak a little French. The food and service were excellent. We had previously visited a different Hotel who made us feel very unwelcome and we left without eating there. Thank you Hotel Lion D’ Or for a wonderful evening.
