Vacation in the Verdon

Reviewed By Peterschotte

All is present to maximum enjoy vacation for a family with 2 kids of 11 and 12 years. Starting with the great hospitality of the owners and their genuine concern for the well-being of their guests. A great swimming pool for endless amusyement. A big nearby mall to get you snacks and drinks and we loved the attitude of the owners to let us eat or drink our stuff on the porch. The owners gave us good advice how to plan our days taking care of our expectations. No need to spent words on the greatness of the environment. A great week to remember as long as we live, thank you both and your sweet doggy.

Great location - but sadly... so many rules

Reviewed By Pieter W

We are a young couple and stayed for 7 nights at the B&B of Ghislaine et Philippe in July '16 + + Very good location (A lot of beautiful little towns, the lake, Gorges du Verdon, ...) + A lot to do in the nearby proximity + Everything was always very (really very) clean + Ghislaine & Philippe are happy to help you with every question you have regarding the neighborhood. We got a little welcome drink and map of the neighborhood at arrival. + Great swimming pool + A supermarket very nearby + Airconditioning, the room was every time very fresh! :) - - It's not allowed to eat your own food on the domain. They have a very large garden, there is plenty of space. Still it's strictly forbidden to eat your own food. We couldn't afford to eat every lunch and dinner in a restaurant, and there is no nearby picknick place. One time we ended up eating pizza in the car because it was very windy outside (after all it was romantic, we had a superb view eating our pizza in the car on a point de vue). - We asked one time to picknick, and we got a straight big no like we asked something very crazy to our mother. No idea why, but after we explained what we bought, she all of a sudden changed her mind, and we had the most stressed dinner ever, so we never asked it again. - Your room is not accessible without entering the living room. Every time you want to go to your room, you need to cross the living room where Philippe & Ghislaine mostly are. - An additional 0,50 Euro for supermarket cheese, every morning. Same counts if you want a boiled egg, another 0,50 Euro etc... - No door between bathroom and bedroom, only a curtain. - Every time you want to enter the domain, you need to get out of your car, ring the doorbell, and wait for Ghislaine or Philippe to open the automatic gate. - If you decide the first day you have breakfast at 9am, it's 9am for you. If you want to change it, you'll need to ask. - The whirlpool could not be used because of multiple reasons. - Not allowed to use the fridge for your picknick (even if you eat it somewhere else). Luckily we had our own coolbox working on 240V. - 2 nights after each other they had noisy visit while we tried to sleep. The room where they chatted was right below our bedroom. - Because you are not allowed to eat lunch, you cannot stay for a day, because you are forced to leave to eat. - Every night, we had to decide who could drink a glass of wine (after all, you are in France), and who couldn't drink a glass, because you are forced to eat somewhere else, which means you need to drive with your car. (0% alcohol policy... as it should be.) Tips - The map with info is a book full with rules of all things you cannot do. (You even ask to charge mobile phones after 11pm, which is insane). Change it to information with a positive vibe. We are on holiday. - Don't force people the first day to decide what they want to eat and drink as breakfast. Let them choose every morning (coffee, tea, orange juice, ...). We felt really uncomfortable when we asked for no egg, while you supposed we wanted again an egg because we also ate it yesterday. - Allow people to picknick and drink alcohol. We never understood the reason why it was not allowed. Your target audience are no binge drinkers nor homeless people littering without putting their garbage in waste containers. We pay a lot of money to stay at your house. - Allow people to take the key of the gate with them at all the time. Because of the heat, and because we were not allowed to eat at your place, we at least came & left every day 3 times. We sighed every time we had to ring the bell. - Give people their privacy. Let us have breakfast as couple in love! :) If you asked 48h beforehand, you could have dinner for 40 Euros each person at their home, together with them. We decided not to, because of reasons mentioned above, we didn't feel comfortable in company of Ghislaine and Philip. Because of the many rules, we sadly never had the vacation feeling of just drinking a glass of wine near the swimming pool, or with a view in the garden. We really feel you try to do your very best to have everything perfect, but maybe because of that perfection the atmosphere was cold and awkward.

Nature et écolo

Reviewed By LoisFav06
