2 nights was too much

Reviewed By purplegems12

Having a 2 night stay for a couple getaway was nice on arrival. For the price of the stay a few cosmetic improvements could be made. It's good if you don't want to leave the room as there isn't anywhere to walk that is close by and you need to drive to get dinner, so not too many wines. We ordered 2 platters but only received 1 and even questioning that on arrival was told I didn't order it when I did as it was apart of the initial package. Glad we stayed there as somewhere I can compare but not somewhere I'd revisit, definitely for the price.

Fernglen Forest Retreat

Disappointed didn’t meet expectations at all.

Reviewed By TheWilk0s

Covid19 has hit many businesses especially in Victoria. BUT. As a treat based on the photos decided to book the ‘Spa’ one bedroom cottage as an indulgence for 2 nights. The area is lovely, peaceful and quiet but that’s about all.Regretted this choice within an hour. Carport is about 10metres above cottage whereby one walks down the slightly slippery path. Most importantly it’s unlit so take a torch with you if you intend arriving in the dark. Or going out at night. The Cottage itself is quite small. Kitchen bench top is now cluttered with jars of biscuits (stale) cereals, jar of instant coffee, jar of mixed up mainly herbal, tangled strings of teabags, and lumpy sugar. And don’t mistake the bird seed with muesli it’s on the bench as well. One cupboard is now locked. So bin is under sink right next to the pots and pans and rest of bird seed. Decided quickly we had no intention to cook anything here. We had one small drinking glass, two miss matched plastic cups as well as plastic wine glasses. Didn’t feel very adult or romantic . Dining table hard up against large wall heater and close to fridge on the other side. Chairs are saggy. Sofa bed saggy as well. A few sticks of kindling then huge damp logs making lighting a fire difficult.Bed was comfortable. But too much furniture ,no room to put suitcases and no hangers in the wardrobe. Bathroom had pump packs of toiletries and sink cluttered with daggy plastic flowers. Because there is no window in bathroom it is gloomy the fan needs to be constantly . Not inviting the inclination to use the spa bath at all. Just kick ones leg high enough over to use the shower instead. At least the water was steamy hot. I am sorry to have to write such a poor review. I understand this area is expensive to stay but at $200+ per night for a couple to stay here was not good value

Merrow Cottages

Merrow Cottages is a luxury romantic hideaway located in the heart of the picturesque Dandenong Ranges National Park and offers one of the largest private native garden reserves in the Dandenongs. Just 45 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD, Merrow is nestled on 11 acres of native forest. A recent restoration project in this forest has fostered a stunning and lush revival of breath-taking native Dandenong flora and fauna. Thousands of native plant species were re-introduced utilising permaculture approaches such as hugelkultur beds. But don't take our word for it, come and experience it for yourself! Few other B&B's in the Dandenongs can offer this level of pristine beauty and privacy. Immediately around the cottages, enjoy a mix of native and exotic species from colourful camellia trees, rhododendrons, century-old mountain ash trees and vibrant tree ferns. Merrow offers two elegant self-contained cottages: “Gatehouse” and “Forest Edge”. Beautiful French style toile drapes and antique European furniture, combined with the modern luxury of our spacious cottages will make your romantic getaway an intimate experience you will not soon forget. Dive in the sumptuous, mahogany four-poster-bed, enjoy a complimentary sparkling cider relaxing in front of a crackling open fire or simply soak beneath the bubbles of a beautiful spa by candle-light. You are warmly welcomed to one of Mount Dandenong’s best-kept secrets, unforgettable.

Perfect stay

My boyfriend and I stayed with Merrow Cottages at Gatehouse for two nights in November for a little getaway. It was absolutely amazing! It was just what we were after. The cottage was beautiful and clean when we arrived, very spacious. We stayed for two nights/three days so got a complimentary continental breakfast hamper which was very nice, included bread, delicious butter, some spreads, tea and coffee. The kitchen has all basic amenities and crockery. The bathroom was also nice and clean and well stocked. The spa room was beautiful, could not have imagined anything better it was superb! The bed was lovely and comfortable. The location of the cottage was also good, not a far drive from shops or recreational walks and things like that. Staff at the check in were very friendly and helpful also. Honestly could not have been happier with our stay, thank you very much!

Pleasant but...

Reviewed By MomoMelbourne

Property was generally clean & quiet. We stayed at Crown cottage. But there were a few missing points. Check in was supposed to be at 2. We arrived at 2.30 waiting for the cleaners to leave the property. We all tiptoed on the wet floor as we entered. I was immediately looking for slipppers which was listed as inclusions when i booked the property. Pretty dissapointed that they were not provided, i would happily bring mine if i knew (inclusions needs to be updated) There was a can of mortein sitting on the kitchen bench next to the free breakfast supplies, which was very offputting. I had no plans to feed the kids any of the supplies. By the next morning, the jam in the tiny tub were covered in ants, which now i believe explains the mortein & made me wonder if it had been used to spray it?! The bed in one of the rooms were sunken, i had to prop up my 4 year old on pillows to make it even, luckily she slept well We had a great time at mt dandenong, but i dont think i'll be back here

We spent our 39th wedding anniversary at this wonderfully, romantic accomodation. Julie(the owner) thinks of all the little things that could possibly be needed or wanted. We arrived on Saturday early afternoon. She immediately brought us home made vanilla slices for afternoon tea. The breakfast provided for next day,was amazing, complete with homebaked bread delivered in the morning. Port and chocolates in the sitting room to have in front of a lovely fire(gas log but wonderful). Bath bombs and a bottle of red wine for the spa upstairs...etc...etc...etc The only thing I could say was missing was a coffee pod machine. Maybe for next time we stay. Thanks Julie. We will definitely be back
