Definitely should try the lemon cake (the best I have had in Takamatsu), the salted ice cream (so silky and smooth).
We ate at Sparkyâs Café for three breakfasts, and we loved it. Funky, eclectic, quirky, and with excellent food and coffee, it moved the needle on the Improbability Meter. We had the breakfast with soup, salad, boiled egg, toast and jam and fresh fruit. The toast was the thick slice with the crispy- thin crust that you only get in Japan, just great. The salad was super fresh, with a diverse mix of crisp lettuces and other bits. The soup was a creamy base with mushroom, bacon and diced bits of green and red peppers and potatoes, delicious. Their coffee was excellent. The only wish was that the egg had been less hard- boiled. Maybe they do those automatically for westerners, since the Japanese tend to get their eggs on the runny side? Maybe Iâll learn the Japanese for that for the next visit. It was somehow also fun that the server seemed to be on another planet â still, we got what we ordered, no delays, and her service from another dimension only helped to set off the place from everywhere else. There were not many people there but Iâll bet itâs jammed in the high season. The mood was very laid back. The music was jazz versions of pop songs you have heard before, but really nicely and artistically executed. There were two nice gents out front every morning, greeting us just with the casual âOhayou.â The last morning I asked if one of them was Sparky- san. They had a good laugh, as no Japanese mother would name her son Sparky, and we did not know his real name --and it turns out that one of them was. After a brief chat in my broken Japanese, we bade Sparky-san a farewell as we rushed off to our ferry, promising to return. And we will.

We found Cafe Seven Islands on our way to the Ishibashi house of the Japanese art house project in Honduras Port. We decided to take a break there, and were delighted to discover a restaurant that was more like a museum than a restaurant. It is full of masks, art objects, and interesting things. The staff was charming, the shisso juice divine, and we left completely restored. Thanks for the creative and fun rest stop!

We arrived by ferry at art-island Naoshima and decided to rent bikes to discover the place. Hungry after some steep uphills, we found this stylish Japanese (and Finnish - Ittalla glasses) design café. Bike parking is provided and you enter the place through a small garden. We opted for three different dishes from the small lunch menu, a large and tasty Caesar Salad (can be shares between two), a highly recommended curry with rice and a seafood pizza. All is served quickly indesigner plates, although it was busy inside and are good portions after our biking activity. We finished with a homemade applecake, which can also be taken out. I liked the place and the very kind staff, some additional (Japanese) dishes could would be welcomed, so we can eat here all the time and still have variety.

Not many choices in this âdead villageâ .We stumbled upon it and went in .Small Place Converted from a small house .Three choices for lunch ,we had the risotto and seafood curry preceded by excellent miso soup and salad .Both main courses were excellent .Had ice cream with caramel for dessert .3000 yen for the two of us and well worth it .

Tucked away down a little laneway, this cafe is a must if you visit Naoshima. The table settings are all unique styles - some with floor seating, others with chairs - that blend together to make a very cool, quaint, yet warm dinning experience. We ate the standard rice curry and also one topped with an omelette. They were simply scrumptious!
