Hatcho no Yu

Extraordinary dinner and breakfast, comfortable rooms and a lounge.

Very far from Kinugawa hot spring station, 1.5 hours local bus and 30min shuttle bus by this ryokan. We went to this place for 2-days family reunion at early April. We enjoyed absolutely fantastic Japanese dish at every evening and morning. I cannot admire enough these delicious foods which are not soy-sauce-full, Kanto-like taste. On the second day, menus differed from the first day (dinners and breakfast). Rooms and the lounge are also comfy. We spent plenty of time In the lounge, enjoyed reading (as we planned), "gomokunarabe", and free massage chair. There was also a "Shogi-ban". Even though the snow was piling up outside, the wood stove warmed the lounge enough. The hotel stuff (most of them are from other Asian countries) work enthusiastically. We shall return!

Onsen

A friend who is a Japanese national took us here during our stay in Japan. Although not a 5 star onsen, we loved it and the value for the money spent is well worth it. They provided a bus ride for us to Nikko as well as dinner and breakfast buffet. Besides one other family we were the only 'tourists'. We got to sing karaoke, sit in the onsen (they have private onsen that can be reserved) outdoor and indoor, and each of us were given a Yukata to wear on the premises.

A little nice hot-spring spa experience with great food

Reviewed By Foo S

One of the typical Onsen (hot-spring) Hotel with my non-Japanese partner to have his first time Onsen experience. It was all in all wonderful and we both had a fun stay including the yummy dinner & breakfast. Totally recommend to hire your private bathing slot for 50min if you’re couple or family staying together. The local sakes were quite tasty and the dinner & breakfast using some of local ingredients. Better be hungry as the amount of food are more than enough! There’s a heated swimming pool as well as normal combination onsen spas with good water. I used the box spa and it was quite funny but also a very nice new experience. After having Onsen time, my skin and hair were perfectly soft and glowing. The hotel offers a short shuttle ride from Kinugawa-Onsen station and probably better use this service as it would be a good 20min walk to get there. The hotel staff members were all kind with good cares. Female guests could choose one of their colourful yukata (a kimono-style PJs) and they’re all very pretty. The only down side at this hotel was that everything was a bit dated. They were all clean but some decors you don’t really wanna see in a bright daylight, to be honest. We stayed from Sunday to Monday and it was very quiet. Partly because it was an alarming typhoon weekend, maybe. It was nice because not too many tourists were staying. Depends on the price you’d pay, but I could certainly recommend this place for your first time Onsen spa experience for a night or two.

The hotel is situated not too far from Kinugawaonsen station. It doesn't have meal options and the hotel is rather run down. During our stay, we felt there was no other customers but hotel owner claimed full house for the weekend. The room itself is actually OK. Cleanliness was acceptable. The Onsen was average and occasionally the outdoor onsen was cold.

Decent hotel for Nikko tour

Rather old but quite big hotel with nice and various food buffet style breakfast and dinner. Quite convenient location. Dial bus going to the station and local theme parks is available. Friendly and helpful staff. Room interior and its facilities are quite old styled, especially safe and fridge. Old tobacco smell inside the room is irritating. Indoor and outdoor spa are disappointing, very small and not really worth attending.

The onsen-bath was very clean and beautiful, outside-bath(as you know it is Roten-buro)was just nearby a river the name is Yunishigawa-river. Dinner was perfect, very delicious, so many kinds of Washoku dishes were served. Above all, a grilled Iwana-fish was good. The Iwana-fish was grilled in a Irori, Irori is a Japanese traditional oven. Breakfast is also Japanese style, many kinds of Sansai-foods(as you know they are blesses of mountains)were served.

Amazing view and excellent service

I stayed at this inn with my friend in Nov 2019. As soon as you step in the inn, the nice smell of incense welcomes you. In the lounge, you first have some tea and sweets. The entire building is not very large, but all rooms face the river and the creek through large picture windows. The staff was all very nice, polite, kind, friendly, and helpful. Traditional Japanese meals were just fantastic both dinner and breakfast, which you eat at the privately sectioned eating areas on the ground level. Hot spring bath was cozy but clean and comfortable. I really enjoyed this inn. The only thing I want to warn is that this inn is not located in the center of the hot spring village, and you need to get on the bus for a few stops unless you have your own car.
