I was traveling solo and was glad I was in the main building and not in the others where it was more motel feel. The pool looked nice and clean and the room was very clean. However, staff wasn’t very friendly and when asked to check out, the guy said put your card on the table and you can go. No thank you for your stay or did you enjoy your stay. And breakfast did not have much variety and some areas were not very clean. I did not notice an attendant there. I did enjoy the waffle maker. Overall, okay stay if you just there for a day at the beach or hanging out in Grand Haven.

This room seemed more like a crime scene than a hotel room

Reviewed By D H

This is the absolute WORST Choice Hotel Room we have stayed at ever and we are Platinum members. We understand that this is a Rodeway Inn and it’s not the upper class hotels in the chain but what we encountered here was nasty, disgusting and completely unacceptable. While checking in, it was difficult to communicate with the desk clerk who spoke very little English and not very friendly. Then when leaving the office my husband slipped on the ice outside the door. Driving around back to our room in the shady parking, it’s not even really plowed. The property really needs to have some upkeep done. The room itself was not cleaned at all. Apparently, they must not have a housekeeping staff. The longer we were in the room, the more things we found and the worse it got. There was blue paint on a chair, dresser and phone(see photo) no coffee maker, none of the floors had been vacuumed. There was debris everywhere. (see photo). The tv and mirrors were dirty(see photo). There was what appeared to be blood splattered on the heater which also had gum stuck to it. (see photos) There was something brown gooey and oily spilled on the night table (see photo). The phone in the room was completely filthy and disgusting too. (see photo) It wasn’t even plugged in. The poor bible wasn’t even safe in this room as it had scribbles and drawings all through it. (see photo) There was some sort of open fuse panel in the bathroom. This does not seem safe. (see photo) The towel rack was broken (see photo) and there were sharp metal pieces left lying in the room. (see photo) The bathroom door was so out of alignment that there was a gap all the way around it. The gap at the hinges was so wide that you could see the person inside using the bathroom. (see photo). The outside of the microwave had something spilled on it and was nasty too. There inside was not any cleaner. It had not been cleaned in a long time. The refrigerator was also filthy and dented (see photo). It was actually full of hair (see photo) There were two beds in this room. One of the beds actually had hair in the sheets from the previous occupant. (see photo) Lastly, as we were turning in for the night, we discover that we can't even use the worth chain lock on the door because the chain is too short to even reach over to slide in the lock. Not that the mount with the tiny screws would hold up to any force, but seriously, did someone even try to make this work? This was the absolute worst room we have ever seen. This hotel should just be condemned, no longer in business and Choice Hotels should remove it from their list of hotels. This room seemed more like a crime scene than a hotel room. My husband wanted me to wait and post any reviews or complaints about this until after we left so we wouldn't be murdered. Not that we could have posted because the WIFI here was impossible to use. This was a huge overcharge and waste of our 12,000 points. Upon leaving… not that we would have eaten anything from this filthy place, they didn’t even offer any type of breakfast. Not even a grab and go pre-packaged muffin and bottle of water. Recommendation – stay as far away from this place as possible. Its Not worth using free points, paying any amount of money, or even given a free room because you will be a needing tetanus shot after staying here.

My husband and I love to walk when we visit cities and the Boyden House is a 5 min walk into town. The neighborhood is beautiful, well lit, and we always felt safe walking back at night. We stayed in the Safari Den room that is quite spacious, but I must admit it needs a new paint job. Its so dark in that room even with the lights on and blinds open. Some furniture could use replacing, there were some noticeable rips in the fabrics. I will say though the Safari Den room seemed private away from other rooms a bit and with nothing but the kitchen and dining area below us we never felt like we weren't disturbing anyone. Our host and Innkeeper Shelly, was so great! Always greeted you with a smile and gave us the inside scoop of what was happening downtown. My only other suggestion to the management is to maybe list on a board what will be served at breakfast in the morning. We had baked Oatmeal and yogurt and my husband was not a fan, we probably would have skipped it if we would have known ahead of time. So some pros and cons but nothing that we felt ruined our stay and we would absolutely stay here again.

Waterview Suites in Downtown Grand Haven!

Charming place

What a great find. We stayed one night in the upper deck and due to navigating stairs, we moved to the foredeck suite for the next two nights. It was very clean, easy check in and check out. Ample living room, bathroom had a jacuzzi. The bedroom was large with a comfortable king size bed. Quiet at night. There was a little kitchen with fridge, coffee machine and snacks.snacks. Nice front porch to eat our dinners. Really everything we needed and we felt very safe in these COVID times. You are across from the harbor and around the block from downtown area with restaurants for eat in or carry out.Since we went in late fall the rates were great. This must be a well kept secret. We wouldn't hesitate to return.
