Camping Tohapi Atlantic Club Montalivet

A cheap budget holiday disguised by attractive facilities and happy staff

Reviewed By summersoul23

For starters, I would like to mention how this experience was only with myself, and I am sure this site is well suited to many others. However, if you want a top class memorable holiday, please bear these features in mind: When we arrived, the reception was shut when it should have been open, and I met some families who had this same problem. The queue to enter was long when it did open, so we did not get the best welcome to the site. Not a deal breaker though. At our accommodation, we did not have any towels, the hot water was faulty and the beds were rock solid, so we had to take many more trips to reception, which we resented especially after our 'welcome'. I often woke up aching and/or bruised due to the beds, plus the rooms did not have insect shutters like other sites do, so we often found creepy crawlies all over our caravan, which was not the best experience. We did get settled in, the beach was a good distance and we could walk to Montalivet and see their restaurants, which were very worth the walk and did not feel like tourist traps. The pool is great, with good slides for the kids, but as always there is the sun lounger problem and this is always an issue which is never resolved wherever you go. The pool was very busy at all times of the day too, and it kept going against their rule of 1 swimmer per 4 metres squared (?). I often left the pool feeling dirty and could not swim much because of this. The best part of the site for me was the main area, where you could easily buy drinks while watching the entertainment, the churros were divine and I even had a few crepes. But once again, there was NO social distancing and while it was nice to escape the lockdown in England, I kept feeling paranoid because of it and putting on hand gel. There was a restaurant on site which we tried and it felt a bit rushed, as if we were taking up the time of other customers. The food was nice but it came questionable fast, and tasted as if it was just a microwave ready meal. The servers were very kind and spoke great English though, they made us feel welcome. The kid's club workers were always upbeat and even came to speak to us on the occasion, making us feel safe. I have to hand it to them, they dance to the same song about four times a day and didn't appear tired of it. I found it bizarre how the site had its own 'theme song' called 'Tohapi' which was a nice touch but when you heard it so often it felt as if they were forcing you to enjoy it here, which the kids loved but not so much us. Overall we had some nice days here, but we enjoyed it more off-site than on-site. It was more suited to the French than to the English, but the staff did help us settle in well (ironically not the reception staff initially though). If we went in the future I have no doubt we would have a better experience, but this year it was not the best suited site for us.

Super visit

Reviewed By Wilhelm F

I was pleased to be back at CHM for two visits in July and August. The cleaning regime in the toilet areas are excellent. Very helpful and friendly CHM staff at reception. Had a great time in the Gaia beach bar. All Covid restrictions were strictly adhered to including having to prove that I had a double vaccination. Sadly the numbers of visitors were significantly down due to the Covid problems. Let's hope next year the numbers will be back. Great time, thanks.

Nice camping with good points and bad points

Reviewed By mauritsw2019

- great pitch. Very spacious! - 10min drive to the beach. Also easy to reach by bike, but there is just 1 path. Not a great area to cycle around, because there are not many cycle paths. - nice village vendays montalivet in walking distance(supermarket, bakery, pizzaria, small market). - great are to explore(soulac s/m, bordeaux, wine tasting, gironde area, dune du pilat, multiple ‘lac’s’. - timer on the showers. I understand that there has to be a timer, but most of the showers stop draining after 10sec. Power of the water is also very low. This should be modernized in my opinion. Showers and toilets are clean! - mood of the camping owner. The man looks very stressed. I can understand because the man is working for 7 days from 08.00-23.00. He isn’t very helpful in my opinion although he speaks good English. - You cannot order some products on the menu of the camping some days, because they serve just entrecote. I just wanted some fries and was send to the village. A frenchmen before me was able to place and get his order. A bit strange in my opinion. - camping owner can be very rude to children. Drives after them on his bike because they shoot a ball in the swimming pool by accident for example. Not necessary at all. - great spacious pitch - nice surrounding with trees and bushes - water points close to the pitch - no bat points about the pitch itself.

Wish we’d stayed longer

We had the most peaceful week at this site and were genuinely sad to leave. We pitched our tent with electric hook-up in a lovely shady spot and were comfortable at all times of day and night. The owners are warm and friendly, they never seemed to be inconvenienced, (Sophie helpfully speaks fluent English). We ordered pastries and bread every day and ate on site one of the evenings. We used the site BBQ most evenings which are easily accessed and always clean. The facilities are generally very clean and the showers are warm and spacious. The atmosphere on-site is friendly, obviously the noise-level depends on the guests but there is no evening entertainment so it was generally quiet. The site is well-located for some lovely nearby beaches (10 min drive) with cute boutique shops, markets and supermarkets, and being so costal there was always a nice breeze.

Very small sight close to the beach . Little or no facilities for children. Just as expensive as a 5 star campsite.

Everything was clean and shops were close by but the cost was very high for one week. The availability of been able to walk to the beach was the only reason that the cost was so high as there was no child facilities at the campsite

Séjour agréable

Reviewed By RudyDE
