Last night, we ate at LâEtoile de Fes on one of our semi-regular visits to Clermont-Ferrand. We usually dine at La Palmeraie, but were sufficiently swayed and excited by the reviews on TripAdvisor to give LâEtoile a go. We were surprised to find any Moroccan restaurant in the top 20 restaurants in any large town in France, so we thought it must be quite special.Perhaps we struck it on a bad Friday night, but our experience bore little or no resemblance to some of the rave reviews on TripAdvisor (many of which are first and only reviews â¦)We arrived at 7.30 pm to find one other table occupied with three young ladies. We were promptly shown to a table, but then there was quite a bit of a delay before we were given a menu. We had an aperitif whilst we checked out the menu â which, to be honest â is very limited ... no Moroccan standards such as harira, chorba, pastille â¦Having eaten a snack lunch relatively late in the day, we decided to only order tagines â one with artichoke hearts and one with aubergine. Fifty minutes later, and about five minutes after our bottle of red wine and our carafe of water finally arrived, the tagines arrived. The meals for the young ladies at the other table appeared at the same time as ours, and they had arrived before us. For most of the night, our host/maitre d/chef? was absent.I had selected lamb to go with the artichoke hearts. Whilst the serving was large and the lamb was beautifully cooked (but no better than we cook at home), the artichoke hearts and carrots had been cooked separately and added later. They were dry, rather woody and very bland. Never having had artichokes, perhaps this is what they normally taste like? On the other side of the table, my husband was tackling his tagine with chicken and aubergine. Whilst the chicken was tasty and well cooked in the tagine, the aubergine â which had clearly been (over) cooked with the chicken â was almost an unrecognisable pap, cooked to smithereens ⦠No-one else came into the restaurant after us at 7.30 pm. Five diners would seem to be very slim pickings for a restaurant rated no 16 out of 442 on a Friday night ⦠We had little enthusiasm for desserts or coffee after our meal. Whilst we have lots of sympathy for the poor gentleman/cook/maitre d, with his little unwell son (who was up and down the stairs regularly), our bill was E 55, which does not seem very good value at all for what we got. Feel free to check out our other reviews â as laid-back Australians, we rarely complain about service and things that arenât quite right, but at this restaurant, there seems to be an awful gap between our experience last night and what others claim We wish the gentleman well with the restaurant, but we certainly WONâT be back.We usually take photos of our meals, but did not bother this time for obvious reasons.

Excellent place for a good coffee, a good snack or lunch with your family.I had a very good coffee and excellent greek "patisserie".We strongly recommend this place.

Close to the cathedral, great inside and outside eating! Friendly staff and really good food! The desert menu must not be avoided, go for the profiteroles!

La Tente Berbere was an interesting experience on my recent trip to Clermont Ferrand. The food was good, but not the best I had in Clermont. The experience was interesting--eating in a tent indoors. The tables were crowded together making it hard to get in and out. All in all, I enjoyed it, but personally I would go back to some of the other restaurants before I returned to this one.

While visiting in Clermont-Ferrand, my daughter recommended Il Visconti. Delicious food served in an intimate and cozy atmosphere with very good service, friendly and welcoming staff. Our entire family enjoyed a wonderful lunch here. The plat du jour or the menu items offer dishes for everyone. We enjoyed it so much, that my husband and I returned for a second lunch visit. I highly recommend the linguine alla vongole.....excellent, perfectly prepared or the pumpkin risotto which is unusual and delicious. Make reservations! This is a popular restaurant with limited seating.

We came here for lunch. The restaurant I understand is new but had quite good ratings. The service is average, not fantastic: we had 2 waiters one who was very amiable, and a female who was extremely rude to us and forgot most of what she was in charge to serve us (bread, salt etc). Now I give only two stars because outside of the service, the food was a real deception. We all got their most expensive dishes (entrecôte with ratatouille, pommes sautées, tagliatelle) and there was no taste, no seasoning effort... It was sad to eat and I felt ripped to be charged so much for this insipid meal. We left without dessert or coffee and won't come back.
