First Stay at Leonard's

11 friends spread across 2 adjacent cabins was a great experience. Views of the bay came with daily sunsets on the water and visits from our pet whale, eagles and Whiskey the fishing dog. Yakutat Charters comes right to the Leonard's dock to pick us up; couldn't have been easier. All support staff was friendly, helpful and accommodating. Cabins were cleaned daily and had all the amenities for us to focus on having fun. Fish processing was fantastic. Dawn and JT (caretakers) are super friendly and were there to help us with every special need. I'm looking forward to our next stay already. Thank you, Dawn and JT!

Glacier Bear Restaurant

Reviewed By Pathfinder49109

I am giving 2 stars because the restaurant was obviously overwhelmed with business, otherwise, this would be a 1 star review: We arrived around 6 PM as a party of 4. We were seated, and greeted in a reasonable manner. After about 10 minutes the waiter took our drink orders. It was obvious that he was overwhelmed, so we put in all of our food orders at the same time. We waited, and waited for our drinks..... After about 30 minutes our dinner plates showed up. They dropped off the plates and walked away. No one asked if there was anything else they could do (there was). We had not received our drinks, appetizers, or salads. We could not get the attention of the wait staff, so we proceeded to help our selves to water which was set up on a serving table close to our table. The food was OK, except my steak was well done (no pink at all) and had been ordered medium rare. The onion rings were pathetic- very thin, like something you would use as a garnish. The bacon cheese burgers were good. There aren't a lot of options for dining in Yakutat, so be aware of the potential for poor service.

Icy Bay Lodge

1st Time to Icy Bay and will be sure to return!

Reviewed By Randal B

We arrived at Icy Bay on a rainy and windy day. We were met and the airstrip by lodge staff and fishing crew. After a warm reception and introductions, we were off to the lodge via the camp 6X6. It was a short journey from the airstrip to the lodge through the forest. We got our first glimpse of our home for the week when we emerged from the forest and onto the beach. The lodge exceeded my expectations for a remote location. We were given a warm cup of coffee, fresh cookies, and a tour of the lodge on our arrival. Our cabin was spacious and was complete with a comfortable bed and a hot shower. It was relaxing to drink a cup of coffee on the deck and watch the morning roll over the bay. The first day out it was easy to see why this is Icy Bay. We were greeted by Ice chunks and Sea Otter on our way to the fishing grounds. The weather was less than cooperative during our stay, but Captain Mike and our Deckhand John were able to get us on fish in tough conditions. As a bonus, they shared the beauty of the Bay and the wildlife of the area. On one outing, we were able to get a closeup view of one of the glaciers at the head of the bay. As the weather improved, we were able to venture into the the fishing areas that make this a truly unique fishery. The Lingcod bite was tremendous with many pushing the 50 pound mark. The Halibut and Yelloweye were willing biters as well. It is easy to see why one would tire of catching on these waters. Each morning we would wake to a delicious home cooked breakfast and a hearty cup of joe. The evening meals were excellent and consisted of various seafood dishes. My favorite was the Shrimp and Grits! Thanks again to Mike, John, Kate and the crew for making this a special and memorable trip.

Unwelcoming Food Stop

Reviewed By justinf426

Full transparency I didn't stay at the lodge. We only stopped to grab some lunch and the man working the bar and serving wasn't very inviting at all. I don't know if he hates his job or was simply having a bad day but he tossed out hostile comments that created a bad environment. Maybe it's the only show in town and he doesn't care how disrespectful he is too people. If you want to leave feeling unwanted or that your business isn't needed just visit this place and that's how you'll leave.
