Great find for a stop over in Kernville, CA. Clean, quiet, relaxing and a wonderful staff. We had everything we needed for our stay and room 17 is the best room. Overlooking the river with a little patio out front. Would definitely stay here again.

This isn't a resort, I'm not a criminal, and no hot water

Reviewed By sukhoi_584th

I've stayed here around a half-dozen times over the past decade. They've previously been good stays, though I recall some displeasure with the prior stay and unfortunately didn't write a review of it to remember what it was about. After this most recent stay I will be looking for different accommodations in Kernville. I don't know if the ownership/management has changed or what, but it's not for the better. The problems: #1 - You're not a resort. Don't charge a hidden $10 resort fee. Having a game room, a couple grills, and gliders outside the rooms does not make a resort, and certainly does not merit a secret $10 fee that is not disclosed in the line item summary and total cost when booking. Charge $10 more for the room if you need $10 more revenue and don't hide the fee. #2 - What is with the taped up papers announcing $50 charge for A/C set below 72 °F and $100 charge for taking a room towel to the pool? This is not the ambiance I want at a "resort", and those penalties are absurd compared to the cost of the action. #3 - NO HOT WATER. We went to take showers at around 9 PM only to find zero hot water. Wife went to the front desk who said they'd have someone come check it out. No idea if that happened - we never heard anything else. It was still cold when we went to sleep so we figured we'd at least shower in the morning. Nope, still cold, so we dropped the keys in the box and left before the standard late opening of the front desk. Never received any apologies, comp, or anything else.

HORRIBLE SERVICE

So we checked this place out since we were coming to Kernville and figured we stay here a couple of nights while we hit the river in the mornings. Upon calling, we spoke to Tina, and she informed us there is only one roof available, and for one night only, so we jumped on it. Checked in about 5:00 pm on 3/22. Got our keys went to have dinner in Kernville. We returned around 8:00 pm and got ready for bed since we were tired. This is where things went south. Immidetly upon arrival from the dinner, we heard this loud banging noise coming from the room next door. Upon checking, we realized this was an "Employee Room" We called the office and told the guy on the phone we heard loud metal and pipe banging from the next door, to which he replied; The water heater does not work! I asked him why they would book a room next to a broken water heater where there would be such loud noises? The person (I believe the name was Jerimiah) said again rudely, " I guess it will stop when people stop taking showers! I was like, wow! Okay?! What the hell do we do? This was the only lodge and not many available since a rodeo was in town. So we bit the bullet and went to bed. Throughout the whole night, this loud noise kept ongoing. Finally, it stopped around 6:00 am, and this time, there was a work crew out in the back right below our window talking loudly and working, trying to fix the problem? At this time, I had enough. I called the front desk, and the same guy picked up the phone. I told him we could not sleep the whole night and were not happy with the way things were going. He SCREAMS, SAYING; DID YOU SLEEP HERE TONIGHT OR NOT?!?! I said to myself, this guy has some nerve. I went to the restroom to get ready to go down when I realized there was no power in the room. This was turning out to be a sketch out of SNL. At this point, we were just done with it all. We gave our keys back to Tina early in the morning, who seemed like a nice girl, and she apologized on behalf of Jerimiah, and we checked out. Maybe the establishment owner needs to retrain the staff on how to speak to the clientele. If you are in the hospitably business, you need to be accommodating and not act as a slum lord, even if you are in the middle of the mountains.

Riverview Lodge

The River View Lodge is from "Old Kernvile" with our new little modern touches it is almost perfect. Most of our rooms are approx. 125 Feet from river. Most rooms have river views, but all have the lovely sounds of the river. With some new help, and new sheets, quilts, restored bathrooms and towels the lodge is shinning more and more everyday.

Years passed quaint and rustic

Reviewed By loriaah

I Stayed at this property 10 years ago and it was cozy, quaint, and rustic...it was also clean and well maintained and the owner/operator was pleasant and welcoming. We stayed three nights last week and it was horrible. The country blue carpet was stained horribly and actually looked gray in the traffic areas. The handle on the toilet fell off with first use, and none of the lamps were plugged in when we arrived. Fortunately there was a ceiling fan as the air conditioner shut off if turned lower than 75 degrees (it was 80 outside). Also, the advertised continental breakfast consisted of coffee only. The rooms and the grounds looked sad and unkempt. Lots of cigarette butts, brush, trash, etc. littering the property. The hand railings were old and splintered, and ready to fall. The light shining on our deck was a light bulb hanging by a wire. We were never greeted or welcomed. We received a text message that our key and receipt was in the room and the door was unlocked. The owner/operators hung around our deck smoking and talking loudly while they panned for gold. Maybe more time should be spent cleaning up the property.

Comfortable & Nice Place to Stay

If you have dogs the management has rooms set aside for people with dogs. These rooms are the same as the other non-pet rooms. The size of the dog doesn't matter - my Great Dane is 120 pounds - and there wasn't any more of a charge for her than for the miniature poodle. So many places won't allow big dogs but here they do. There is a $100 pet deposit but it is returned after the stay is over. And best for the dog owner, the hotel is right next to a very pretty park that is along side of the river. So it is very easy to walk the dogs any time. Some of the rooms are not the largest but all are sufficient. The bed is very high but once I was in it, I slept very well. The owners are extremely nice and will help with any questions or concerns. I thoroughly enjoy staying here with or without my dogs.
