The chicken is very good, although a little salty. But the real draw at churches is the sides and the biscuits, which are better than any of the big chicken chains.

Hondo Cafe

Traveling from Frio River back home to Houston we stopped for breakfast. This family run business is clean and fresh! The Prices were amazing for the authentic Mexican choices as well as the delicious French toast and pancakes. We ordered more as we ate! It was THAT good. The Huevos Rancheros- with refried beans and homemade tortillas -outstanding. Best refried beans I've had ever. Don't miss this little gem in Hondo.

Hermann Sons Steak House

Every time I’m in Hondo, Texas, I’ll drop by Hermann Sons and I’m never disappointed. Was seated quickly and the waitress was very attentive.Had the Longhorn Special which was a sirloin steak with an enchilada and loaded baked potato. The salad bar was super with loads of fresh choices. The steak was cooked and seasoned to perfection and the enchilada was so good I sopped up its remains with my Texas Toast. Had a wonderful slice of chocolate meringue pie to top it off. Wish I lived closer because I’d eat there every day!

Heavy's Barbecue

Reviewed By InspiredSailor

I rated Heavy's excellent as it fit my profile of likes. First, the place is clean, open, friendly and easy to maneuver. Ambiance is rustic Western with heavy but comfortable chairs & tables. On entry and to the right is the place to get the food and left are all the tables and chairs. We took a table that suited us and once we had decided what we wanted headed for the food line. It seems that locals head for the food line first. It can be quite busy at the traditional 12 - 1 lunch time. At the end of the food line it, as you go through, you pay for the meal. Check how they ring you up. They made a mistake on ours. However, we will return many times as we stay at the Escapee's RV Park west of town.Other comments are that the restrooms are clean, tables are clean, chairs are heavy, people were friendly enough and no one looked up to see who the "strangers" were. I am sure that when you eat here you will agree if you avoid the rush so enjoy. BTW - this was our first time eating here and we have no real motive to convince you that this place is something that it is not. Enjoy. For food there was brisket, sausage, chicken and ribs. There were specials and we chose the 2 meat with 2 sides for about $10.50. I elected for ribs and brisket with coldslaw and potato salad and the partner had sausage and brisket with pinto beans and coldslaw. As typical for us, we shared 50/50 on the meats and sides so as to be able to diversify the meal. We both thought everything was excellent and prepared well.
