The Ox is a Missoula Icon. It's located within walking distance of about 20 downtown bars as well as several hotels, including our favorite, the Doubletree. I don't know if they have locked the doors in the building in the last hundred years, We stop in for late night breakfast almost every time we are out late in Missoula. (maybe we shouldn't admit to that, lol) It is the kind of place where you may meet the president of a bank or a hobo just off the freight train. The food is legendary, but not in a gourmet sort of way. Brown gravy and hash browns, hamburger steaks and eggs cooked to order. I don't remember ever eating a meal that wasn't breakfast, although they have a full menu. The staff is usually friendly, but colorful. It is the dive bar of dive bars, and the grill is a perfect match. The Ox may not be for the squeamish, but if you are out late and want a great late night breakfast, it is worth the trip!

4B's is a nice little restaurant which actually straddles a creek. Seven booths and one table are allowed large windows to watch the water flow. Two menus are provided for the dinner. The smaller of the two was better value for our breakfast with two eggs, hash browns, toast and choice of sausage links or bacon. This is a dollar cheaper than the regular menu which doesn't even offer the meat.Coffee isn't particularly strong but the attentive server kept it flowing.Restaurant opens at 6:00AM daily during the summer. (Only one other two-top was in.)
