We took our Washington friends here for dinner the other night. My wife and my college buddy had the fish and chips both said it was very good. His partner had the shrimp special with tater tots and she really enjoyed it. I had the ribs and tater tots. I've had the ribs before and this time they were just as good. Good flavor and extremely tender.

My wife and I live just 5 minutes away from The Cliff Dining Pub and have driven by for years without eating there- until last night. From our visit we took away several impressions. What the Cliff Is- a nicely situated restaurant; wonderful ambiance, great views of Draper and the Oquirrh Mountains and opportunity to witness fabulous sunsets. There is a very nice terrace/patio with a fireplace and as we've seen from driving by in the past, in warmer weather you can eat outside. The Cliff is quite spacious and you can choose to eat in the Dining side or the Pub side. One side is more formal dining while the other is what the name implies, relaxing, kick back, watch some sports, and enjoy the sights and sounds. (they bring in live music on some nights) The staff was friendly and courteous, though our server was not quite as attentive as the night got busier. However, what the Cliff isn't: a go-to, knock your socks off food experience. Above all, we go to a restaurant for good food. We happened to order items from the menu that we have tried at other restaurants and none of the food seemed to measure up. My wife loves coconut shrimp and she was sorely disappointed. She didn't quite finish her tomato bisque soup as it didn't compare to a few of the restaurants just down the road. I went basic with Steak & Fries which was supposedly served Argentine Style with chimichurri and an egg on top. The fries were served with bleu cheese crumbles sprinkled on top. I lived in Argentina and I never had a steak like this- thank goodness. It lacked flavor and I had the impression that the chimichurri, pepper corn, and other add ons were an effort to disguise a rather ordinary steak. The egg was probably the highlight. I could barely eat the fries. While the crumbles added a different taste the fries on the bottom were soggy and not edible. The table next to us was close enough that we could see their food and hear their comments. Blackened Salmon, which I almost ordered, was quite good. The filet was okay, and the gentleman who ordered some type of flatbread concoction was quite vocal about his disappointment. While our server bragged about the popularity of many of the Cliff's dishes I think in the future we'll just continue to drive by to other places where we'll sacrifice ambiance for better food.

First, let me tell you that Liz is the bomb! She was friendly, professional, informative and on-point with service. This was our first visit, as we are taking a leisurely vacation, and using quirky ideas for stops, like recommendations from Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Looking at the pictures on Yelp, I knew we were going to have a hard time narrowing down our choices. We arrived before the lunch crowd, so had plenty of time. We ended up with the fish and chips, a cup of homemade beans and ham soup, and the wings. First, the soup was great! Clearly homemade and with a yummy broth. The haddock filet was huge! Love the unique coleslaw- simple and fresh. My husband loved it enough to order some to go! They were great accommodating my husbands special request for sauce on the side for the wings. Good size serving and cooked perfectly. If I had one suggestion for improvement, it would be the tarter sauce - it was rather bland. Otherwise a perfect meal!
