Juanito's Taqueria

Another place that we pass several days a week and it has taken us years to stop. Glad that we finally did. Maybe it was the loads of cars that are always in front of their place. The menu is small and simple. Order from one window and your food is brought out from a door on the other side of the room. There are tables inside and two picnic tables outside. We had our food to go, and it came nicely wrapped up in a paper sack.My meat burrito was loaded with chunks of beef, sour cream and great seasoning. My wife's dinner was equally good. We were very happy that we finally "discovered" Juanito's and will be stopping again.

Scout Cafe and Honor Bar

This little place is indeed a bit "different"...especially for an old timer (70ish) like me. But it was very welcoming and quaint at the same time. It's in an old restored house near Evergreen Park off downtown Bremerton. We've eaten here quite a few years ago under other management with more conventional menus. Honor Bar is only open Wed.-Sat.and doesn't open until 4.The menu is very limited and a really unusual assortment of dishes, including meals that seem to be geared toward vegetarian preferences (though there is a $25 steak on the menu too). The wine offerings are extremely bare bones with about four whites, four reds, a rose' and a bubbly. Because they appear to only serve wine by the glass, I suspect spoilage and costs are kept down by only having a small variety from which to choose. Next time I'll check to see if I can bring my own cellar wine. Cocktails seem to be their forte' and that list is much longer than the wine list (plus it makes more money!). I had a standard vodka martini ($7.25) and my wife had their Age & Sage ($9.50), a concoction of gin, cranberry and house-made sage syrup served in an icy metal cup. It was really drier than expected and excellent! Wife had their Faro Salad ($14.00) which was both attractively arranged and delicious. The wheat grain was perfectly cooked until soft, but still chewy and crunchy. A crisscross of whole long, thin baby carrots with green tops laid on top along with steamed greens and sumac flavored yogurt. I'll order this sometime on a return visit. I had the Asian style roasted chicken wings ($14.00)...plump, crispy, juicy, full-flavored wings with a very southeast Asian salty/sweet marinade and coating with soy, fish sauce, garlic etc. Quite yummy! I only wish they came with some cooked greens too. Just wings...no veggies. We had a glass of French rose' and Corvidae (Owen Roe) Sauvignon Blanc to wash down the food. Both were $7.00 before discount. From 4-6 is happy hour, so all drinks, wine, beer are $1.00 off and there is a small selection of appys too (though we had none).Total bill before tip was $60.00. Our server, Julie was quite cute, upbeat and very willing to get answers to all of our questions if she didn't know the answer herself. Both the bartender and the owner stopped by our table to ask how everything was...which I always appreciate. This is a unique little spot with an equally unique menu. We'll return.

We have eaten here many times since it opened. The food has never been a disappointment and the prices very reasonable. There are few places in downtown Port Orchard to eat that are worth the effort but when we are looking for Mexican this is where we head. Service can be a bit slow when they get busy, but that's the price of success. The staff is always friendly and accommodating.
